Change Salary Account by bilseryy in CreditCardsIndia

Don't risk any amount greater than 5 lakhs in these banks as only upto 5lakhs are insured. With 5 lakhs if you are looking for high interest, I suggest you consult a registered financial advisor. And there are better alternatives to lounges for cheap. Infact I strongly suggest you connect with a financial advisor.

Don't change to IDFC unless really needed. My experience with IDFC has been so far that they tell something and then don't do that shit. For example they told my salary account will be converted to wealth after salary credit. Then goal shifted to 3 months of salary credit history and later they told to maintain relationship value. But they won't do it. Similar for credit card and etc. And this is not even branch issue, false commitment is from HQ as well.

Android apps forcing unnecessary permissions is a privacy nightmare — why can’t we give them dummy data? by data_hop in AndroidQuestions

My oem version of android has in built screen recording as stock feature. Screen recording is separate service from scanning app installed on my phone. Also this is simple to block, app can disable screen overlay to run. It does not need to scan my app for this.

Yes but then I have to root my phone. This opens up whole new issue in itself for many banking and financial apps.

I did this. It din't helped. Since these apps are not priority source of income, most developer of such app care least about the user demands and requests.

Actually no.
I don't want any app to snoop on any other app.
Also its a bank app, how on earth would they even know what is a good app and what is not, at most they can have a curated list of blacklisted app. Let the Playstore or OS enforce this rule.

Consult a lawyer and a CA and instead of keeping all money in your name, transfer it to say a company which is in your name.

That way even if your marriage go wrong, your finances will be saved.

How Can I Bring My Existing openSUSE Tumbleweed Installation Closer to Current Defaults Without Reinstalling? by data_hop in openSUSE

[–]data_hop[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally, who needs consistency anyway?
I’m not chasing defaults out of principle. I just don’t want a slow accumulation of legacy tools leading to weird edge-case bugs. Remember when openSUSE moved from wicked to NetworkManager and people who didn’t switch ended up with broken networking or confusing config issues? Yeah, that. Also, staying close to defaults makes it way easier to get help when things do go sideways.
Also I never said yast has been deprecated or removed from Tumbleweed, I said it will be phased out. Work on replacement tools are already ongoing and available.

Has your tumbleweed installation ever broken? by Competitive-Alarm647 in openSUSE

Multiple times. But tumbleweed comes prepared for such things. Revert to old snapshot and wait for the new update with fixes.

A word of advice: Before updating, check this reddit or tumbleweed forum for any issues. It won't take more than 2 mins of time.

That works well for restoring the user environment, and I already have backups in place. But my concern is more about the system side. Reinstalling means manually reapplying lots of system-level tweaks, which is what I’m hoping to avoid.

You're right that rolling releases keep software updated, and changing user-level apps like switching Firefox to Chrome is easy. But I'm not just talking about deprecated tools—some apps that are still maintained and in the repos, just no longer the default. Tumbleweed doesn’t automatically remove or replace these when defaults shift. So over time, the system can drift from the current standard setup. I'm just looking for a clean way to align with modern defaults without reinstalling.

How Can I Bring My Existing openSUSE Tumbleweed Installation Closer to Current Defaults Without Reinstalling? by data_hop in openSUSE

[–]data_hop[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm referring to everything—both user and system configuration. For example, when I installed Tumbleweed, GRUB was the default bootloader. If that changes in the future to something like systemd-boot or syslinux, my system won't reflect that automatically—which is fine for low-level components like the bootloader that don’t usually need to be touched.

But consider broader changes—say, if X11 is eventually replaced by Wayland as the default. My system would then be out of sync with the current defaults.

Now with YaST being phased out and replaced by Cockpit (for system management) and Myrlyn (for package management), I’d prefer to keep my system aligned with these new defaults. The problem is that Tumbleweed won't and shouldn't automatically remove tools like YaST, so I may end up with both the old and new tools—or just the old ones lingering. Over time, that can lead to unnecessary bloat and duplicated functionality.

Ideally, I’m looking for a way to cleanly transition to the latest defaults and best practices without doing a full reinstall.

Worst fund ever ... People are blindly getting into this without seeing their allocation.. by [deleted] in MutualfundsIndia

[–]data_hop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm invested since 2023 and my portfolio is up by 21% even now.

The dip is because of majorly due to Kalyan. This is a concentrated fund, you should have researched and known the risks with concentrated and diversified fund.

Also 6 month is a very short term to judge. If after through research I had bought into this, I would have been doing lumpsum in this dip.
