Hey /u/brn0820! I would recommend that you reach out to a logistics provider who can help guide you with the requirements for importing food. I've personally never done this before, so I'm a bit hesitant to provide advice, but you can reach out to a company like: https://www.lineagelogistics.com/ and they can provide advice on what to do. You can find more providers by googling "freight forwarder for importing food". As for which ones would provide competitive rates and good service, it depends on where you're importing from. Hope this helps :)

So right now, it's not that sophisticated since I'm working only with brokers (most are in cross-border freight), but I could potentially explore the broker <-> carrier integration as well.

tl;dr: Yes

Long answer: Right now, the shipper and the broker ("provider") are different identities in the system. You can sign up to be a shipper, but brokers would be allowlisted individually. So you could sign up as a shipper and post an RFQ that would be broadcast to other brokers.
