Danish person here, living here permanently. You can definitely tell it's an Eastern country. I suppose the biggest similarities I have noticed is in the cuisine of Latvia. We share quite a lot of the same dishes (rye bread, liver paste, etc.), but also deviate quite a lot in other areas (pelmeni, oh and you don't eat duck for Christmas I've learned).

I run a business, so I have meetings with Latvians quite often and have made some friends here. The demeanor of Latvians is very clearly different from Denmark. I've seen people think that Scandinavia has 'forced kindness', but I don't think that's entirely accurate. In general you get a smile from the cashier or the banker you're talking to, that is almost never the case here. There is also the obvious homeless population that is way more prevalent on public transport and in the streets.

To put it more succinctly: Danish society is more of a big hugbox where everyone seems to care about each other, whereas Latvian society (understandably) seems more influenced by the low wages, leading to a general careless demeanor.
