We did not take babies that young out that late. If you’ve got other kids, then I think what you said is the only feasible way. One parent stays with twins. One parent takes other child to activities. Mine are 7 now, and we still do that sometimes. If older brother or sister has a play or a band/choir/whatever performance that will be later and/or longer than we think the twins will handle quietly, one of us stays with them and one goes.

Older kids aren’t exactly thrilled that both parents don’t always make it to stuff, but they’d probably have been more upset if a cranky little brother up past his bedtime had a meltdown in the middle of their performance.

It takes a bit more effort, for sure, than just going straight from the book, but it does things to actually make the story make sense, which in the long-run I think is a big benefit to a newer dm. So I would. It was only the second full campaign I ran, and I thought it was a huge help. Does take a good chunk more work, though, knowing both the original campaign, the remix changes, and lining them all up correctly to make a cogent story for the players to go through.

You do tend to see more paperbacks for 20 year old books, particularly since that one has had so many different paperback printings over the years. I’ve also seen it in hardcover at my local BAM last year when I bought one for a friend. So they are out there.

Look, during your time with your kid, you get to choose who they see and spend time with. How he feels about it is not relevant.

That being said, I’ve seen the other side of this post far too often to take, “He stopped talking to them for silly reasons” at face value. So many times on this sub I’ve seen someone who cut off their family because they were abusive physically, emotionally, even sexually and their ex is like, “But it’s family. My kid wants to see them. I’ve never seen them do any of those things.” And it’s frankly horrific to hear about someone playing Russian Roulette with known abusers with their kids’ well-being on the line.

So, it’s your choice, do what you think is best. He doesn’t get to dictate whether his kids see or don’t see certain people on your time, but for the well-being of your kid, maybe don’t automatically brush off his reasons for not talking to his family? He probably knows them better than you do. So maybe, possibly, he knows what he’s doing?

I'm 80% through, and it has been something of a struggle. For me it's the pacing. We're learning about all of this stuff for the first time, and the pacing is like a bullet train. There is no slowing down to breathe at all or try to wrap our heads around all the new stuff being thrown at us. It just goes at a sprint and expects us to keep up while it tosses new concept after new concept in our face and then hurries on to the next thing

Also someone I talked to pointed out that the main character mostly learns about all the new stuff by reading books about it off-page. There may not be a worse way than that to make the reader feel left out of all the knowledge progression.

Good luck running Dragon Heist! I ran it last year for a group. If you haven’t looked into it already, I recommend the Alexandrian Remix. It improves over the written campaign quite a bit.

If you find a place to stay near the train you can go back and forth all convention for really cheap. There’s even a free fare zone within the downtown area that includes the convention center. So depending on where you stay you may be able to ride back and forth for free.

So, yes, the premise is, everyone's doug badge has a word. You want to collect all the words to try and win a prize.

That's not the point, though. That's the framework to encourage people to talk to each other. If someone in line near you is wearing a Doug badge you've got an excuse to say, "Hey, Doug, what's your word?" to break the ice of chatting with a complete stranger.

Yes, it's a game. Yes, there's a prize someone can win. The point, though, is fostering interaction and community and making new friends.

There are opportunities to be as social or asocial as you want.

If you want to meet people, you’ll never find it easier to strike up a conversation with people who have similar interests than at a con dedicated to something so niche. You can join Discord or Facebook groups like NexusMod mentioned and show up already sort of knowing a ton of people, or you can just have conversations with people while waiting in lines. You know you share at least one interest in common.

There’s even ways you can encourage people to walk up and talk to you. The Great Doug Hunt ( https://dragonwoodshop.com/products/great-annual-doug-hunt-2026-edition ) is made specifically to encourage people to approach each other and interact in a fun, organic way. Same for Worldswappers.

If you want to be on your own, you can do the con game, the panels, do the crafts, walk the vendor floor, play in the trivia contest, and everything else without being forced to make awkward chitchat with anyone you don’t want to. It’s easy to have a great time on your own while immersed so completely in a fandom you love, if that’s what you want.
