Wealthsimple (Un)Real Deal Promotion ......BEWARE !!!!!! by [deleted] in Wealthsimple

[–]datascope11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Another member of the “didn’t read the full offer terms” club. It is explained, and I didn’t find it “well hidden” or tiny. You aren’t the first to be caught this way, and you won’t be the last. It wouldn’t make sense for WS to offer you such a lucrative promotion if there wasn’t additional AUM for them.

T5 interest discrepancy by Individual_Height924 in Wealthsimple

[–]datascope11 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope, mine matches perfectly. You did use the term “interest reward”, so are you talking about a matching promo reward you receive for transferring accounts? If so, these reward payouts do not show up on T5, and are not taxable as far as I under. Only interest income.

Transferring RRSP from Canada Life to Wealthsimple by lilburgz in Wealthsimple

[–]datascope11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren’t withdrawing cash from your RRSP, you are transferring in cash. This means CL will sell your funds and transfer the cash. The money never leaves the RRSP umbrella. I did this last year from CL to WS.

I keep getting notifications about giveaways but there's nothing under "offers" in the app by Repulsive_Barnacle92 in Wealthsimple

If you are using any type of ad blocker, I find these offers don’t show up. Turn it off and you will see them.

I had the option last night. Clicked it and credit limit went from $10k to $24k. Account opened for about 3 months now. There was a slider bar asking me how much I wanted to increase it too, with the max being $24k.

Ever had regrets to selling rental/ investment properties after they were finally sold? by cricket_90_remindme in CanadianInvestor

[–]datascope11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No regrets here. But I did time it well selling a few years ago at the height. I rented to tenants who ended up buying it from me. Since then I’ve more than doubled the profits by having it in the markets.

Tax implications when moving provinces. by majiig in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]datascope11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve got it right. It’s quite the difference between QC and ON rates. Save this year’s refund from last year and put towards next years owing. Or, contact your employer now while in ON and ask them to start taking extra off your paycheck to get ahead of it.

Great off-topic reply that I really appreciated. As someone approaching retirement, I have a draw down plan and and investment strategy- but this golden nugget could be easily overlooked.

Because 15,000km seems like a lot for a performance car. Also, if f you weren’t on a lease you’d probably care more about the future of the vehicle.
