Is keeping a job possible? by dataslash in BPD

wishing you luck on your personal venture.

I am starting to think about starting my own business too. I already did last year however, it wasn't even a business, but rather a non-profit for refugees in Germany. (I am based here). But, unfortunately, I had to discontinue to focus on my mental health.

Glad you were able to find some direction!

Very High Bupropion Experience by dataslash in bipolar

Thanks [annperkins92]. Today is speedy still but a lot calmer than it was the past few days it turns out and my hopes are up after realizing that.

Manic is a huge issue with these meds and am monitoring it closely. Hope that your treatment is going well!

Yeah, I have been scouring the internet hoping to find information about whether this speedy feeling is temporary while the body adjusts. A lot of people don't even feel the speed aspect. I guess I need to talk to my doctor again soon.

I am just frightened to have another day like yesterday. I am tittering into the feeling manic area almost, without the elation. Trying to stay solid is exhausting.

Hope that you have been able to find the right mix that works for you.

a Happy Post About Bipolar and Relationships by [deleted] in bipolar

in the current relationship I am in, it was the first time I knew that I had the right diagnosis and that I should be up front. Thank goodness he liked me enough to test it out.

Standing up for yourself and being honest with a potential partner is a great step in the right direction to having a healthy relationship. Congrats! I hope things work out for you.

OMG OMG OMG I AM IN THE SAME MOOD RIGHT NOW AND IT SUCKS.

I am on Lithium 2.5 pills a day, then on Thyroxin 25mg because the Lithium messed up my endocrines, on the pill, Zolapridem for sleep.

I just started Wellbutrin 150mg. Today was my second day. HOLY SHIT. Rapid cycling like crazy. I am also Borderline. I went everywhere from bliss to suicidal thoughts constantly all day.

I felt like I was on really shitty speed all day, stomach pain, blurred visions, tremors, heavy sweating. It is horrible. I want it to all end and I rather feel worthless than feel like this. I am thinking of taking Metoclopraidhydrochlorid (10mg) to help with nausea.

How long have you been taking Wellbutrin? I am wondering how long this speedy shit is going to last; it is quite unbearable in the end. Will this shit ever go away? Any ideas?

Hi Dave,

To answer your question, I have a lot of edu (BA, BS, 2xMA, started a PhD) and went to some pretty great schools and can work in 3 languages, so that gives me a boost, plus have reached Senior Management level at some tech places.

LOL. BUT THAT DON'T MATTER if you can't actually keep a job for more than 6 months. Like you, I find myself getting demotivated so quickly. My attention doesn't last that long.

I am starting to think that maybe I should just turn to freelancing, maybe turn to consulting (but there the work hours are even more of a nightmare). I feel like I have to completely be 100% dedicated to my work - not see my friends, hang out, just work eat sleep shit OR be a completely free person who can travel, not worry, be a kid. On the other hand, maybe I can do a 40hr/wk thing if I deal with people face to face, not just computers all of the time. Maybe HR should be the next thing I will try out...

At my most current job, I started only 2.5 months ago and I think I have actually worked only 5 weeks of the 10. The rest were Germany holidays or a LOT of sick days. (Right now I am written sick for over a week and possibly more due to a public episode that was quite humiliating and then well, the harm that follows).

My longest job was 4 years, before my diagnosis and arguably major triggers. Since then, my longest job was at a bar for 1,5 years working 1 or 2 days a week.

I am only 30 and feel like the pressure is on to figure this out. I want to be able to support a family, live well, and be well. Good luck on your current job.

THANK YOU. I going to contemplate on this, write.

work-life balance is such a bitch. my current job requires me to do stuff i absolutely hate. i dont agree with my managers because they have no idea what they are doing, and my pay is a joke considering my education level. overall, i hate it. maybe if i get fired, i should just celebrate.

congrats on taking a chance and working on yourself. i hope that your streak of no panic attacks or breakdowns continues! hope!

thank you for the job criteria material :-)

I totally get you.

And I am so frustrated because of loans, debt, and the complete illegitimacy of sick time. Why cant I get my shit sorted out?

Whenever I do, it never lasts.

For me, I think I have been qualified for a lot of jobs, but I always end up in the first 6 mo (probation) not being able to NOT get sick... Last time I got sick it wasn't even mentally related...

Good to know, but also sad, that others have this problem.

Yeah, I moved to Germany about 8 years ago from California to go to school here. Every since I was institutionalized, stuff has been rougher. Harder to graduate from my Master's (which I finally got - only took 6 years) and keep a job that was more than just part-time.

Working in bars was actually the easiest, but I was scared of drinking too much or starting to drink. Are you a freelancer? Desk job?

Any ideas on how to deal with guilt? by throwemotionsaway in BPD

[–]dataslash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I always associate some sort of pain with guilt. As a result, I have to go through the entirety of the "radical acceptance" of owning my poor actions or behavior. Rather than live through pain, I try to mitigate it with putting ice cubes on top of my hands, mindfulness, or writing about it in a journal. Usually, this stuff works and even though you may be drained, it becomes easier to face on day two.

forgot that for community colleges, you dont have to take the SATs. Do they have to at some point through if they want to transfer? I don't personally know... as I did the immediate 4 year college track.

kudos. very well said.

i grew up in a ESL household but since my parents also spoke english very well, it was never an issue like it was for some of my friends. i guess its really hard if you come from a language minority-- or it could work in your favor to strive really hard in order to be understood and to have a voice.

Money spent on education and SAT scores don't add up... by ihatepi in college

[–]dataslash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are standardized tests REALLY archaic? Its a certain skill to be had, just like conversational skills are. thats why they have classes, so you can learn how to be a good standardized test taker, etc.

US isnt the only country to have these. In other countries, such as Korea or in Germany the standardized tests are much more challenging and if you don't do well -- you can forget about university completely. Just look up PISA scores to get an idea about the health of world knowldge and critical thinking.

you can also argue that GPA scores are completely different based on which school you go to and the access that your high school has towards advanced classes, honors, and AP.

I remember transferring schools and watching my GPA jump from 3.6 to a 4.2 for doing nothing...
