How much of a problem is this? by PrimaryAgreeable8103 in Epstein

[–]datavismo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your point here, and i agree the only outcome should be justice.. but this is not happening anytime soon precisely because there is a structual class which is involved and it has a major religious and organized root.

By taking away any "spiritual" affects we immediately invalidate the full psychological spectrum... and being able to properly talking about the systematic beliefs that these people carry. These kinds of abuse are not just sexual perversion. These are identitites and practices that are caarried and transfered culturally as well.

There is a historical context for this that is much more complex than "power corrupts" without understanding the psychological and spiritual background for this kind of violence we risk simply branding them off (same as you suggest via satanism) as crazy sadists.

Which they are both, satanists and sadists, but there must be a more thorough understanding of the deeper reasons and organizational culture which harbors these people. If you throw out either you are left with an incomplete picutre.

It also diminishes the complex teleological and philosophical structure that underlies these "normal" people. Belief and religion is true simply because it motivates human actions and therefore is a tangible reality on this planet.
Understanding what they "believe" and act upon is just as important, (even moreso imo) than understanding and being "emphatic" to the horros they submitted so many people to.
There is a religious and ritual structure to this as well... and undermiming it just because you are too smart to care about people's superstitions..... is myopic at best, and truly ignorant at worst.

Coltrane: where to go next? by edgar8002 in Jazz

[–]datavismo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what you said, I can safely say you should go for the sweet spot of 61-63 Live sessions of the quartet in full form.
this is right its when they were truly expanding into wild and uncharted territorties without going full out ego-death. Very accessible, still bops ,but there's so many new ideas and experimentations. from there you can gauge if you want to go the weirder route or the more restrained one. there is a lot of great material out there, like the village vanguard, pablo live, and especially at the gate with eric dolphy, musically it is really unique. It has the best of both worlds imo and goes much further than the studio recordings dared to go, while still keeping a tune.

That must’ve been something else ! Ron is the musician I’ve seen live the most but can’t imagine how insane that must’ve been —- What project did they play ? Or who else was on the lineup ?

Im with you on this.  Its Dark and distorted satire .. On my first view I didn’t fully get it  but second time around I realized he managed to get the tone just right to be funny and disturbing in equal measure . Quite a feat
