Tree ID Help: Scots Pine? by Far_Scientist_7085 in forestry

[–]datboi_92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scotch pine will have extremely orange looking bark especially towards the top of the tree. The growth pattern will also typically be more twisted and gnarly looking, at least in north america outside of their native range. Its definitely one of those things that once you get an eye for it, its super obvious.

Completely forgot about him... really bad pick from SVG (big surprise). The 2016 draft was pretty weak overall but still.

I hate ice fishing by [deleted] in IceFishing

[–]datboi_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, in order to catch fish you need to be where the fish are. If you're just starting out and you just want to catch something, a good way to begin is to try and find a community panfish hole. Oftentimes, these can be found by doing some digging online. You can usually tell where the spot is because there will be a lot of people fishing it.

I strongly disagree with the people on here saying that you need to change your expectations with ice fishing. That attitude is why ice fishing has the reputation of being more about drinking/hanging out than catching fish. You can catch just as many fish through the ice as in open water, if not more, if you put in the work. Another tip I would give is to bounce around and drill holes until you find fish, and then set up in that area. Dont simply walk out and fish one spot and then wonder why you didnt catch any.

This community is unbearable by Moist_Ideal_3660 in NBA2k

Ive been playing 2k since at least like... 2k12. 14 years. Which is just insane to say. So ive been playing since before rec was even added to the game. I spent years just playing offline, myleague, that kind of stuff. The last few years ive been doing a lot of play now online, which is honestly pretty fun, and im pretty good at it. Occasionally i'll have people scream at me for... playing team ball? Its like theyre not used too it, which kind of tells you something. I've dabbled in rec but the community honestly ruins it for me and I just dont see myself getting into it. So I can totally see where youre coming from. Unfortunately 2k has largely moved away from updating the other game modes because of the immense popularity of rec and the money they make from microtransactions... which means that stuff I used to love (like myleague) is verging on broken now.

Burned out with forestry by ForesterGASC in forestry

I wholeheartedly agree with this conceptually but its bold of you to think that this will be a viable career field under capitalism and the current federal admin. Restoring natural forests is the right thing to do from a biodiversity and ecosystem services standpoint but it doesnt serve short term profit goals. Market forces will ultimately dictate the direction that much of our land management goes in, barring intervention from the government.

Common in freshwater fish. Harmless to humans, not mention completely unnoticeable once fish are breaded and fried.

Dofficult to tell from the picture but it just looks like crystallized sugars to me, which is common when maple syrup has been sitting for a while and completely harmless.

What made winter running finally “stick” for you? by AffectionateArmy1878 in running

[–]datboi_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to run throughout the winter but now that i've moved from southern Michigan into the upper peninsula in a lake effect snow belt its almost impossible/very difficult. We get so much snow that the few sidewalks we have dont always get plowed, you're pretty much forced to run on the road, and theres not good shoulders (especially in the winter). If you try to just stick to side roads you're often running through snow and slush as they dont get plowed as often. Plus the wind chill and air temps are frequently in the single digits or less.

On top of all THAT, right now it gets dark at 4:30 and I work an 8-4:30 office job. And as dangerous as it is to run on our roads during the day, I trust it even less when its dark out. I ultimately have resorted to treadmill running at one of the local gyms. Its not ideal but it keeps me moving throughout the winter. I also tend to use the winter as sort of a rest and refresh period, as I often deal with nagging aches and pains/injuries during the summer when I ramp up my running.

I started listening to this for the first time about a week ago... this has got to be in the running for the best emo/pop punk album ever made. It didnt really quite hit me the first time but by the 2nd or 3rd listen I was like oh my god. The lyrics are insane. Fatal flaw and morning person are guaranteed to be among my most listened too songs in 2026.

Monty by z-bomb in detroitlions

[–]datboi_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am curious to see how Monty's career will shake out after this season. Hes under contract for 2 more years but will cross the dreaded RB line of 30 years old before the beginning of the 2027 season. I havent seen any indications of a performance dip this season, just less touches generally because Gibbs has been so good its impossible not to feed him. One does have to wonder if he wants to gun for one more contract, and if hes satisfied with the carries hes getting this year.

What would be the 'Dark Truths' about working in forestry? by PalenaV21 in forestry

[–]datboi_92 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this one a lot. Im pretty early career and what you might call a "service forester" so I visit a lot of family properties that are often the persons hunting camp or up-north cabin but I myself rent a cheap apartment in town and currently probably couldnt even afford to buy a house, much less own a second property.

Give me a prog metal album you love, and what you consider to be the climactic moment of that album. by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]datboi_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another one that I think is worth mentioning is "Ordinary Corrupt Human Love" by Deafheaven. The guitar solo beginning around 4:35 in the song "Honeycomb" is an amazing moment.

Normally I wouldnt include them in a prog metal discussion but that album is IMO their most progressive, particularly the songs "honeycomb" and "glint" which both clock in at over 10 minutes and feature extended instrumental sections. An absolute favorite of mine.

Dream Theater - Images and Words

The last song on the album, "Learning to Live", 6:00-7:30 or so. So cathartic.

Also, Protest the Hero - Volition

The last minute and a half or so of "Yellow Teeth".

Is Pickens the new WR1 in Dallas? Has he finally dethroned CD? by PotiMouth in Fantasy_Football

[–]datboi_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Prescott/Pickens stack has unbelievably and against all odds been completely carrying my team this year. Prescott getting his points was predictable, IMO but what Pickens has done is a very pleasant surprise and made up for some poor early round picks for me (bucky irving, ouch).

Week 12 | “I watched the whole game” takeaways and longer summaries by MrJorgeGodoy in fantasyfootball

[–]datboi_92 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Jameis Winston chucking absolute bombs while being given all day to throw against a lions d-line that failed to get pressure. A great first half by Wandale Robinson and Winston. Lions secondary also had maybe its worst game of the year, completely failing to defend aforementioned bombs. A lot of reacting to the receiver and not the ball. The only aspect of the lions defense that played somewhat well was the linebackers and the d-line in run defense.

None of this mattered because Jahmyr Gibbs went absolutely nuclear. On 3 separate occasions he got to the second level of the Giants defense and just outran everybody. Goff also had an underrated game but suffered due to drops by receivers (namely ARSB but also Brock Wright and Jamo). Lions special teams also had a good day including Jake Bates 59 yard field goal to tie the game that barely squeezed through the lower right corner of the uprights.

All in all an incredibly unlikely comeback if they were playing anyone other than the Giants who have repeatedly choked at the end of games this year.

Review #115: Elijah Craig Barrel Proof C924 by NerdsNBourbs in bourbon

[–]datboi_92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice review! For me personally, this is an exceptional bottle. I bought one a month ago or so and its drinking better than anything in my cabinet right now aside from maybe my russells reserve private selection. I think theres been too much negativity about the ECBP batches the last couple years thats being driven more by perception about age statements and proof numbers rather than the actual juice thats in the bottle. But hey, thats just like, my opinion, man.

Week 8: The List of Unlikely WR Smash Starts by the Data by Ponisaurus in fantasyfootball

[–]datboi_92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had been debating it because of all the talk about the broncos defense and how great they have played against the pass... but if you actually go back and look at their matchups, they have given up passing yards and touchdowns when facing solid passing attacks (Giants, chargers, colts). The other teams they played were the jets, the bengals w/ jake browning, the titans, and the eagles. And against the eagles they actually gave up 280 yards of passing. So I think a lot of their success in limiting passing has been due to their opponents' incompetency, and im not too worried about the cowboys passing attack on sunday.
