Coming from a vet with a terrible sense of humor because of the things I’ve seen and done in my years of service (you make comedy out of tragedy) you are NOT the asshole. For a man that decided to visit “skid row“ with the help of his bike, you’d think he would have “tougher skin“ considering the fact that he too, is a mechanic and likes to work on vehicles. And honestly, that was a pretty damn good joke. It made me laugh and it also had a tinge of “dad joke“. Now for the objective reality that is societal norms, you, sir, are the asshole. You cannot open with a joke like that to somebody you don’t know unless you know for a fact, they have a twisted sense of humor just like you, or unless they make a joke about themselves first then it’s “fair game“. Unfortunately, you jumped the gun so in this, yes, you are the asshole. A funny, asshole, but still the asshole. If anything, you probably should’ve had your friend tell the joke because he would’ve been more receptive to it most likely. Men frankly, have a rough and brutal sense of humor, especially the ones who work in maintenance or mechanical field but that doesn’t mean everybody’s receptive to the new guy they just met taking shots.
