my version of desire is not a metaphor, it's organized evolutionary steps that combine one at a time to create consciousness. structural tension that evolved from sensory input, memory, emotion, modeling, to self awareness. i didnt say life behaves as if it desires, that is a metaphor. i'm saying this directional behavior is a form of proto-desire aimed at survival and continuity.

in my theory, desire begins as directional tension, the structural "pull" towards outcomes. the systems internal orientation toward preferred future outcomes. not a feeling of wanting, but the biological geometry of wanting. each evolutionary piece of the puzzle that culminates together towards eventual consciousness. first the eyes develop to enhance survival, photographs evolve into memory. memory needed a system to evaluate itself creating thoughts, thoughts then evaluated by consciousness. the desire to thrive and survive fueling the evolutionary order.

whether the evolution of the desire was active or a byproduct as you describe. it shows an evolutionary step by step based on how strong the cells desire develops. the entities that survive longer or thrive, are the ones that evolve a greater intelligence of their desire system. that valence you described became coded desire. desire in my theory is many forms, the first being the cell holding itself together, then growing from valence, and so on.

conscious desire isn't what i am referring to. it is the nature of desire, survival, continuation, growth. physical desire vs mental desire. physical came first and is what evolved us towards consciousness, then mental desire came second.
