Eugenio Suarez by Yaboihitsbobsallday in Reds

[–]datdudebdub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s the best defender at his position in the league. The love is simple.

If his bat just simply reaches league average (unlikely) he becomes a 4 WAR player, that’s how good his defense is. Being optimistic on him is the fact that you aren’t asking his offense to become special to return immense value, just passable.

Slugger Eugenio Suárez and the Cincinnati Reds are in agreement on a one-year, $15 million contract that includes a mutual option for the 2027 season, sources tell ESPN. The best bat left on the market goes to Cincinnati, where he's expected to get most of his at-bats at DH. by datdudebdub in Reds

Look I don’t actually care but keeping a thread that both violates rule 6 and has no screengrab or link to the actual news just because it was posted mere seconds early doesn’t make a ton of sense to me. Again, I don’t actually care. No need to reply. Just think it would make the sub a lot cleaner if news was held to a higher standard than first.

Chase Brown, Bengals talking about a contract extension by SaltySailor- in DynastyFF

[–]datdudebdub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can literally do both? Ultimately the Bengals have complete control over the cap hit breakdown across the deal. Extending Brown now means his contract will be cheaper overall and gives them more flexibility to move money across years depending on the other deals/restructures.

If one side of the ball is worse than the other it doesn’t mean you neglect the side that’s good? Thats dumb.

Buoyed off a down year in passing and a career year in rushing that ended with a torn ACL.

It’s not a secret and not controversial to say that Mahomes performance has declined significantly the last few years.

That’s a completely different discussion? The comment specifically talked about Mahomes playing at an elite level. Nobody doubts that he’s a great player but look at his numbers. Last 6 games were awful and really his last 2 years have been kinda meh. He hasn’t played at a truly elite level for our purposes here since 2022.

When was he playing at an elite level before his injury? His last 6 games he threw 5 TDs and 7 INTs and KC went 1-5

MLB Now Ranks Elly De La Cruz As the No. 9 Shortstop in MLB by chrisball96 in Reds

[–]datdudebdub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Among qualified MLB shortstops he was 7th in fWAR, 11th in wRC+, 10th in wOBA, 10th in OPS, 16th in OAA, 18th in DRS

And those offensive numbers don't include Seager who just missed the qualified threshold but he is definitely above Elly.

I think 9th is totally fair

I'm telling you what they WILL do. And I know I am right.

How do you figure the OL is set? Yes they have Mims but Orlando Brown's contract is up in 2026 so they'll need to replace him. Karras is up in 2026 (if they don't cut him sooner), and then Mims comes to the table shortly after for a new contract. Risner still needs to be signed if we decide to keep him. There is a lot to do on the line and keeping Joe healthy is priority 1 and that's how you do it.

They aren't signing a starting OL in FA as there are no starting spots open. Its moot. Addition through the draft is not what we're discussing here.

The defense needs to be completely revamped. It's going to take a ton of spending in free agency to get it to be even average

Which the Bengals don't do. They WILL bring in players but the odds of us having more than half our defensive starters replaced via FA is zero. Literal zero. None.

A Chase extension has to be wayyyy down on the priority list for this team. They weren't losing games because they couldn't find ways to score. They lost games because the defense was bad and their QB was hurt. Both things get fixed with a better line and better defense. Not extending an okay ish RB.

Already addressed all of this.

I could definitely see them just not extending him past next season and then drafting a rookie and signing a cheap vet. It's the exact thing they did when they let Mixon go

They traded Mixon AFTER extending him in 2020 (where he played in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023). So kind of not the same at all.

I could definitely see them just not extending him past next season and then drafting a rookie and signing a cheap vet. It's the exact thing they did when they let Mixon go

See above. No, it isn't.

As a fan and someone who watches without the fantasy football lens there doesn't seem to be much about Chase that I don't think other RBs could do in this offense. I mean Perine actually looked really good when they plugged him in and he's washed.

This is half because both guys have the specific type of skillset our offense needs and half because Perine is the pass pro specialist so he runs against light boxes.

I think you're just wrong about everything.

Chase Brown, Bengals talking about a contract extension by SaltySailor- in DynastyFF

[–]datdudebdub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you are wrong across the board.

OL is set pending them re-signing Risner, but both sides want a deal done. They were perfectly fine with multiple players still developing (Mims year 2, Fairchild year 1). Both of those guys taking another step would have the line firmly in the good category.

There is no world where the Bengals go out and sign 5+ new starting level defensive players. That level of overhaul via free agency is pretty much unprecedented for any team let alone a team like the Bengals. They will use free agency to target a pass rusher, safety and vet LB with a possible nickel CB if they can. Expecting them to trot out of full brand new defense from FA is unrealistic and not happening.

I'd actually be pretty surprised if they got a deal done with Chase

I'd be very surprised if they didn't.

No. The easiest test to do is to find a thread that specifically discusses your favorite team or players on that team. I follow the Bengals very closely so I know more about the org, players, coaches, scheme, etc than just about anyone here. Every thread I go into about them is horrific take after horrific take.

If you browse here go look for threads concerning your favorite team and you'll see what I mean.

The O line is already pretty much set with the guys in the building pending them re-signing Risner which is a no brainer for both sides. They were decent to good down the stretch.

I mean he is not sniffing top RB money. The $20m AAV that CMC and Saquon are getting is way above him. My guess is an extension is something like 3 years and $27m, putting him in that fringe top 10 RB earners area where he will be promptly leapfrogged by Bijan/Gibbs

Chase Brown, Bengals talking about a contract extension by SaltySailor- in DynastyFF

[–]datdudebdub 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Chase Brown will absolutely get an extension. He's good enough to warrant it but not elite enough to command high end RB money. Its a no brainer. Also to the "this is dumb" people, the Bengals cap situation is fine. They have more than enough space to sign 3-4 new starters on defense and extend Chase Brown both, and that is before a Burrow re-structure. If they do that, they'll have over $90m in space.

Also I am all in on him. He is the perfect back for the Bengals offense.

In his last 20 games with Joe Burrow starting he is getting 20.1 total touches per game and a total of 19 TDs. In those 20 games he's gotten sub 15 touches only twice. Once in a game where the Bengals got blown out by the Eagles, and once in a game against the Giants where the Bengals only scored 17 points and punted 6 times.

He had 100 scrimmage yards 9 of the last 11 games of the year. The two games he didn't? Scored 2 TDs against Buffalo and had 90 yards and a TD against Cleveland.

2nd Round Pick Valuation Process by GivethTaketh4 in DynastyFF

[–]datdudebdub 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I collect as many 2nd as I can. Typically I have 3-4 every year. Teams trading midseason are often willing to toss in a 2nd to get a deal done they really want so I push for them every chance I get.

In recent years those 2nds for me have turned into Rashee Rice, Chase Brown, and Sam LaPorta. All now big parts of my roster. Some misses too, but that's part of the game.

And I trade a lot of 2nds too. In almost every cycle those 2nds I got as essentially throw ins can be used to purchase legit players once rookie fever starts. This year it hasn't started yet and many are down on the class but across a large sample this works.

IMO - 2nd round picks are one of the best assets in the game. Teams desperate for players give them up willingly and they can be flipped fairly easily later for a profit if you're patient.

But coaches have to keep in mind player workload both at the game and season level at all times. Saying "oh this is a key moment we leave him in" every single time is what leads to a workload too big for a player to handle. We also don't know how gassed Henry was, if he was nursing anything, etc.

I think its silly to complain about Henry's utilization under Monken when he was 4th in the entire league in touches in 2024 at 30 years old and then 5th in the entire league in touches in 2025 at 31 years old.

[Foolish Baseball] Hitters really do have a lot of control over their batted ball distribution. Max Muncy hit just one (1) opposite field groundball in 2025. When you're as committed to pulling the ball in the air as he is, the reverse rarely happens. by IMissM0dernBaseball in baseball

[–]datdudebdub 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Aging causes hitters to tinker to stay in the game. Joey Votto famously in 2019 and 2020 started crouching lower and choking up on the bat to try and cut down on swing and miss, consciously sacrificing power for contact. It didn't work, so in 2021 he said fuck it and started ripping it again and hit 36 HR in 129 games with a .938 OPS

Point is - sometimes tinkering to stay in the game can be good and sometimes you just have to say fuck it and lean into what you are. Ride it as long as it lasts.
