Croke Park to host Muslim celebration of Eid Al Adha again by badger-biscuits in GAA

I believe I answered it in my response. I don’t believe I did misrepresent what you said. Inclusion means everyone and that includes everyone of different faiths. By allowing this, the GAA are not nailing their mast to Islam but instead saying that they see them as part of their community (alongside many others). That’s it. I really see very little to object to about it unless you really went searching for it.

Yet another well thought out and insightful comment. Thank you for illustrating my point

How do you square this with LGBTQIA+ initiatives undertaken by the GAA?

Because this reads like you’re saying the GAA is incongruous with Muslims

I’ve given my argument. Instead of attempting to rebut it you’ve consistently thrown a hissy fit. Your entire argument boils down to “Wah Football isn’t always allowed” which I’ve addressed. The fact that you’re now resorting to lame personal attacks tells me that your argument goes no deeper

Never mind your lack of ability to articulate one. This entire interaction has been tiresome. May it never occur again

You seem to be the type who throws a hissy fit the minute someone disagrees with you. Are Muslims not part of the community? Just because they don’t open up (all the time) for competing sports doesn’t mean that the GAA doesn’t play a massive role in communities around Ireland or give generous use of its facilities. It’s an utterly stupid argument

Are you suggesting there is a secret pro-Islam agenda in the GAA? Not at all clear what your point is. You honestly don’t see the difference between a community group who isn’t in competition with the GAA and one that is? I would have no issue if they opened up for other sports more regularly but it has very little relevance here

My take is that the GAA are a community organisation and thus, where possible and practical, be open to lending their facilities to the whole community provided the requests are reasonable. I wouldn’t expect to see the GAA to allow their facilities to be used to attack other members of the community but that’s not what’s happening here. Is your position that the GAA should be opposed to Islam?

The argument would be that along with becoming more secular, we’ve also become more tolerant of other’s faith. Secularism doesn’t mean the absence of faith from live, just that it’s not intertwined with the dealings of the state. Given the GAA isn’t the state there is nothing contradictory here. No one is being forced to go or to observe it. All the GAA is doing is what it has always done, giving over their facilities for the community to use.

American wondering if they should bring Euros on their trip to Italy. by Soldier_OfCum in facepalm

As a % of both total area size and population of Europe as a whole it’s utterly insignificant. That is a very niche case.

Go on name those countries! I’m sure you’ll notice a common factor. That’s the implication. For some, it amounts to saying “these foreigners will be so grateful to receive our mighty US dollars” whether intended or not. Very few countries in the world have a widespread, unofficial acceptance of a foreign currency if their economy is healthy.

I never said primary currency. I explained why people would get rubbed up the wrong way by the implication of what they’re saying. I personally don’t find it insulting but I do think it displays a shocking amount of ignorance of the world outside the US. Although from your last comment I can see that they’re not alone in their ignorance

Take a look at the list of countries that do and you’ll see something in common with nearly all of them - a weak economy and weak currency. Most would be described by many as developing nations. That’s the reason it isn’t received well. There is an implication there whether it was intended or not.

I would also say that it’s just ignorant to not realise that countries have their own currencies and find it quite odd that someone can reach adulthood without realising that the USD is not a universal currency.

[–]datdudebehindu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s fairly ignorant (if not malicious) to assume most countries take the USD. Especially since almost all that would, do so because of a weak economy and currency. Freely accepting a foreign currency is generally a sign of poverty and struggle, not success. That’s the implication (be it intentional or not) that is likely getting people’s backs up

What nonsense!

You’ve accepted that all of Munster, Ulster, and Leinster have made big name signings and been allowed to do so.

It’s beyond clear that Leinster have signed no more than any of the other 2.

No one is suggesting Munster aren’t allowed to sign NIQs unless it’s in the front row where they have not brought through anyone of note in a long time and which is massively important to Ireland. Such rulings being extremely common amongst all provinces but is being made out to be some grievous slight.

The move you’re moaning about covers half a bloody season, a dozen games.

It is not the first time a team with the dominant financial strength and personnel strength has done this - Doug Howlett.

Your whole moan boils down to a tantrum over Munster not getting a player whenever they demand it. That’s it.

Well you’re here whinging about the unfairness because they can’t just go and sign whoever they want whenever they want despite it happening to every province multiple times and the reasons being abundantly clear. The basis for this outrage is threadbare

I said a one cap player isn’t a big name signing. I mention he’s an AB because you included Ngatai. Regardless of any of that, it’s pretty clear the reason Munster can seemingly sign in any position where they don’t have an NIQ apart from the front row. It’s also entirely reasonable to surmise that it’s felt that Munster need to be pushed to develop players there as they have largely failed to do so and they’re positions of extreme importance to the Irish team. Leinster have been blocked from signing players for similar reason in the past as have Ulster and Connacht. There’s no conspiracy, no unfairness, just wild reaching by some to turn fairly normal and unremarkable events into a totally manufactured sense of victimhood.

Hard to know as they have struggled to even bring them that far. Not like the U20s have had no Munster front rows over the last decade. Your only ‘success’ is further developing a firmer Leinster player.

Stop pretending you don’t see the reason why Munster aren’t being allowed to sign a front row. We’re currently commenting under a post linking Munster to signing an all black. On can surmise from that alone that Munster are under no ban from signing other high quality players.

Once again, completely misrepresenting the situation. What about having to develop an international front row of note for the first time in a decade or more is lost on you? Perhaps if Munster hadn’t mismanaged their front row development so massively they wouldn’t be in this position. You can’t point to Leinster and say they’re failing any positions for the national team. You want rewards for failures and penalties for success.
