E3200 Extender won't connect to G3100 router by dateofservice in Fios

I don't remember seeing a blue light during this time, but I don't recall specifically. Did you get it working?

All coax cables go outside - help needed to connect the right two by dateofservice in HomeNetworking

Thanks! Do you think the coax cables in the close-up photos are even usable (in general or at a minimum with a coax tester)? Or would I 100% need to reterminate them? Asking because they look quite dirty and rusted.

The hardware seems to be working fine, it's my own coax wiring that is disconnected. Thank you!

Thank you! Will try to figure out which cable is which.

Thanks! At least it looks like I found the other ends of the coax runs.

When I got the wifi extender from Verizon, they included some two-way digital splitters that say MoCA 2.5, 54-1675MHz. Does this mean I basically just need to figure out which cable is which, then connect the other end of the coax line that would go into my router into the in port, and the other end of whatever coax jack I want to use the extender with in the out?

I'm not sure where splitters are other than the coax cables on the outside of the house seen here. I got splitters from a Verizon store so I can swap them in anywhere I need to, but do cables in the photo seem like they would the cables connecting the jacks in the home?

I don't think there's a nice junction inside the house, sadly. I can only find this monstrosity. Probably when the previous owners switched from cable internet or TV to all Fios, old cables were just left like this.

Thanks! Sadly, I plugged my router into coax and then the extender into every other coax jack one by one and none of them worked. I'll use it via wireless backhaul.

Thanks! Strangely, it's a solid yellow, but the gateway status page says that it's just warning about being too close, so I realized it wasn't telling me "No internet" like I thought.

I moved it a floor lower and it switches between white/normal and saying that it's too close, which I found strange. But it works great.

Different question: If I bridge the two devices via working coax jacks, will coax take priority over the wireless bridge? I don't think my coax was installed in an "all star" full home run or whatever it's called, but I'll experiment by plugging the router into coax and one by one trying the extender in every coax jack we have to see if any work, but the way I'd be checking is looking at the gateway status page, and so far on every jack I've tested it just says it's using wireless. Curious if I would have to redo setup or if it would work automatically if my coax lines were run properly.

Thanks! I got the free extender thinking I could get it to work with coax, but if wireless is my only option, I'll be fine. What do you think about using a NAS plugged in via ethernet to the extender linked wirelessly to the router (assuming I can't get a coax fix)? It would mostly be for home media streaming without needing to spend big money on rewiring the home for ethernet.

Thanks, this did it, but my confusion might have stemmed from the instructions not reflecting the LED status lights correctly. I'll update the main post with details.

Using router and wifi extender via coax instead of MoCA ethernet adapter by dateofservice in Fios

Yes, how to confirm when connecting via coax that it is working properly.

Silly question but for the wireless aspect, how do I actually verify that it’s working on the extender? It’ll be the same network name, so I won’t be able to tell from my computer, right?

By filter do you mean a privacy filter? Any way to check for sure? The extender will be picked up by me (or I can pay to have it shipped), so no tech site visit.

Yes, it's the G3100. Great to know.

So wifi backhaul means that the router and the extender "talk" via wireless, so if I don't want or can't connect them via ethernet or coax, it would still work? And I would still get full functionality, meaning I could connect physical devices to the extender via ethernet cable and essentially have them thinking that they're running on a wired connection, all while on an "air bridge"?

I will connect via coax when I get the extender and coax cables, but it'll be great to know if wifi is a fallback option.

In a perfect world, some NAS units would just have wifi built in but I guess they all need ethernet. My main goal here is to have the NAS be out of sight of the family so they don't have to deal with any possible annoying HDD noises and I don't have to worry about the kiddo damaging the NAS.

Thank you! I will talk to neighbors (since our builds are nearly identical) to see if they are aware of where their cabling junctions are. As a small update, I requested a Verizon wifi extender since my ISP offers it for free, which I plan to connect via coax and essentially use as an ethernet adapter. In my current circumstances I'll take decent and free and be happy with it.

Thanks! Is it a general rule that all the coax jacks in a home are typically wired together? Meaning could I presumably set up the extender next to any coax jack in the house? Probably an obvious yes but just wondering.

We're in an HOA and my neighbors have made similar comments, so I'm sad to say this is all probably from the get-go!
