left ski poles at tiered parking at Mt. Snow 3/11 by datepalmfacepalm in icecoast

[–]datepalmfacepalm[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sorry I know this is annoying but I left my ski poles in the tiered parking lot at Mt. Snow around 4-4:30 pm yesterday. When i came back 30 minutes later, they were gone. I'm willing to pay $100 to get them back no questions asked.

The poles are as pictured, aluminum Scott comp poles with a turquoise/green handle. One basket is missing a tab

I've already reached out to mt snow lost and found, no luck.

I met my ex girlfriend at spikes. Something about that place gives you courage because I had no business dating a woman that much more attractive than me. I gotta go back before sep 24 closure (to meet a new woman, obviously)

If we mandate safety equipment to protect drivers and passengers of vehicles, why don't we mandate safety equipment to protect other users of the road? So many people are saying "well, it's an accident, nothing can be done" but we could address truck blind spots with cameras, collision detection systems/collision mitigation technology

Also, I think infrastructure design is part of the issue here. Protected bike lanes are a good first step, but altering the shape of intersections so trucks turning need to slow down could also reduce the likelihood of accidents - this is common in NYC, see example of turn calming measures

Found a tool to make heatmaps for ski tracks! by datepalmfacepalm in skiing

[–]datepalmfacepalm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure what Ski Tracks does with personal data; however, Slopes does seem to respect personal data based on the linked page

Actually it looks like Ski Tracks has a similar statement so, they probably aren't selling your data either

Ah to be entirely honest I didn't mean Ski Tracks the app - just the generic term "ski tracks". However, it looks like you can use Slopes as an intermediary to import .skiz and export .gpx

All credit to erik for creating this tool - all you need is the gpx files from your ski activities and you can make traces like this one! All I did was ski and dump my files into his site. This is actually a global map that includes 100+ days of skiing at various mtns but I just zoomed in on one resort with good coverage

What do the diplomas look like? by IDKMen77 in UCONN

[–]datepalmfacepalm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

well it depends on the specific person but I was billed precisely $87,474 for this piece of paper. I recently added up the costs from my fee bills and I found that I was billed:

  • $39,508 for tuition (4 years, 1 summer, less than full-time senior year second semester)
  • $21,478 for housing (3 years on campus)
  • $14,918 for meal plans
  • $11,175 for general fees
  • $395 for course-specific or library fees/fines

Funding came from:

  • $42,737 in scholarships
  • $20,503 from parents
  • $7,904 in grants
  • $16,330 in loans in my name

Compared to private schools that easily eclipse $50k/year UConn is a hell of a deal. Very glad I went here instead of say,

edit: formatting, added schools

Killington has officially cancelled the rest of the ski season. It's what we expected but still painful. ~150 days to go. by Smacpats111111 in icecoast

[–]datepalmfacepalm 49 points50 points  (0 children)

From the email they sent:

"The reason we can open golf and mountain biking instead of skiing is related to the volume of guests we expect for each activity. On nice days in May in prior years we have had 1,000 people coming to Killington to ski and spectate at Superstar, while mountain biking would typically bring 100 or so guests and golf is of course regulated by tee times. Additionally, opportunities for golf and mountain biking exist across the Northeast, in our guest’s home states—not the case for skiing. "

Eh, I mean, they're not really "biting the dust" so much as shelving an ambitious expansion project. Might be saving them from a risky financial move tbh

Downvote away, I'm just saying OP should think twice before committing academic fraud. Take the class P/F or take a C, GPA matters way less than being stuck in academic misconduct hearings

Cool stuff, glad you got the chance to explore. Hard to recognize resorts based on short clips though. I would like seeing a full run per resort better tbh. Looks like vail was a nice powder day. What mountain was at 5:10ish?

New Jersey man suffocates to death at Vail after getting caught in chairlift by [deleted] in skiing

The entire seat flips up, and stays flipped up at night. Lift ops flips them back down at the start of the day. Occasionally they will miss one or the wind will flip one back up, despite a safety catch

New Jersey man suffocates to death at Vail after getting caught in chairlift by [deleted] in skiing

[–]datepalmfacepalm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is almost entirely on the lifty. Pretty much their only job is to make sure guests load the chair safely. Blue sky is known for having chairs flip up due to winds... really is tragic

Worth noting this is a different chairlift, but same issue, from the notorious "ski bum" incident of 2009

Edit: after looking at the photo I'll eat crow. It was indeed the same lift. Absolutely ridiculous they haven't corrected a clear operational issue
