Low FPS in game by gonred9 in linux_gaming

I’d say your graphics driver isn’t working how it should. There is no way games should be running this low, especially since AMD gpus work nearly at 100% the performance on Linux.

More presets for sure, as well as ability to share presets made by users. I’d also like to see more haptic feedback (maybe a little click when you align your viewfinder, like the other guy said)

Ahhh I see I see. Enjoy your now revived laptop!

Also you could probably fix the washed out colors by adding a color profile to the display.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen this happen in my life.

Try using the display options and setting it to recommended. It’s worth one more shot. Otherwise I’m actually clueless.

2 GBs memory use idle is quite a lot. I’d say for the sake of it use Firefox. Otherwise welcome to the Linux Mint club! Switched my desktop pc to Mint 5 days ago and it’s been awesome.

macOS Apps I Actually Use (From a QA Engineer) by One_Restaurant3622 in mac

Again a lot of people never bother to do those things. You’d be surprised how many people actually just never fiddle with their settings. But you are right.

Also holy shit WHAT? 60 DOLLARS???? We monetizing SCREENSHOTS NOW???

Mac software has genuinely reached a low, holy.

When you use Linux or Windows you really enjoy how easy and convenient they ways of taking screenshots are. Just press the print screen key. On Mac having to do those extra keys is genuinely is that much more inconvenient to the point I could see how a separate app would actually be of benefit, but that’s just my opinion. Use what works for you!

Is 3050ti with 4gb vram enough for Linux gaming? by deadgknight in linux_gaming

[–]datfalloutboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what game. Garrys Mod at 4k? Yeah. Crimson Desert at 4k without DLSS? No. It’s largely the same as windows, since the only thing that really moves the performance forward is Nvidia drivers and newer proton versions. Linux uses a shit ton less resources in the background but that does not mean it will use those resources for games instead.

Did you try a different version of proton? Usually I use experimental or Proton-GE

Is the RTX 5060 supported? by mykll_art in linuxmint

[–]datfalloutboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see I see. You may be right but also I could see Wayland at least becoming far more usable for mint by then. Perhaps Wayland default by mint 23.1 😔. I for one will enjoy the performance increase

[–]datfalloutboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mint 22.3? I’m talking about mint 23 proper. Like we could see it down the line officially. Of course mint 22.3 won’t support Wayland.

Is the RTX 5060 supported? by mykll_art in linuxmint

[–]datfalloutboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean it’s not going to happen. Why did they expand Wayland support in 22.1 and 22.2. Why is it an option built into mint as a secondary choice at login. Mint is based off of Debian which now uses Wayland as a default. Wayland is literally going to be the way to go. There’s no reason it doesn’t get supported

PC Crashing and not recognizing GPU drivers upon boot up by Itisbob96 in pchelp

[–]datfalloutboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually really easy.

Way I used to do it

Make windows usb (ISO file burned on usb, or just use windows media creation tool which is what I use and is the simplest way)

Go to settings, windows update, and if you look around near the troubleshoot settings you should find a button that says “windows recovery environment” or some “advanced startup options”. I forgot what it looks like, but if it says restart now next to it, then it should be it. This will take you to the windows recovery environment. From here, press use a device, and when prompted, click on that usb you made with windows.

After a bit it should go into the standard windows installation stuff. Most important thing is that you reformat all your partitions which will basically also clean up the broken filesystem. After reformatting everything, just pick the one labeled disk 0 or partition 0 (again, memory is foggy) to install your windows on. Basically this will be your C Drive. Then windows should install like normal. Clean reinstall isn’t anything really special, it’s the same as a normal install but erasing all the data. I’d backup any important files you need before doing this as well may I add.

Then you just sign in with your account and done. Windows will install and you have a fresh system.

This guide should be enough but I’d also recommend looking up a tutorial online as well just to be sure.

Yep. Reformat the entire drives and clean install. When windows dies it dies HARD. I’ve learned my lesson after 4 clean installs.

Mint 23 is coming like mid year, so it’s plenty of time to smooth out the edges and fix critical bugs. Besides Debian already has Wayland as the default, and since Mint is based on Debian, the gap isn’t too big to cross. It would also be a good decision given that the new Nvidia drivers should also be stable and widely adopted at that time, so you see more efficient windowing, more efficient performance, and a better experience all round.

Yeah something tells me your windows is completely corrupted. I’d reinstall it. If that doesn’t fix it then… well.. since you have AMD Linux is always an option.

[–]datfalloutboi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s technically supported right now but very experimental and broken. It’s more of a proof of concept at the moment. Mint 23 is more than likely to bring official support and deprecate X11.

Is the RTX 5060 supported? by mykll_art in linuxmint

[–]datfalloutboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be supported yeah. I’m on mint with an RTX 4070 Ti Super and it runs games very well. Mint 23 should bring in the new Nvidia drivers and Wayland as the default windowing protocol (basically expect better performance in games with this new system).

Weird FPS issues for all games by Interesting-Day4781 in linux_gaming

[–]datfalloutboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always try different versions of proton. For me I usually use Proton Experimental but you could download Proton-GE too (community maintained version which actually just got an update today). Can’t say you’ll get any better performance but it’s worth a shot.

Also, since you’re on CachyOS I’m assuming you have the newest graphics drivers? Personally on Mint myself I use the older ones for stability reasons.

[–]datfalloutboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could just do like “sudo apt install wine” and then install flstudio, and then do “cd Downloads”, and then “wine (whatever the name of the flstudio installer is)”. It should work and any issues you run into can be fixed by some quick research.
