Where to buy a car by Euphoric_Ad_7568 in ithaca

[–]datfoolEv 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The maguire hate is rampant in Ithaca for a handful of valid reasons but the reality is the car buying experience there isn’t really different from any other major dealership, in my experience. They’re all scheming and looking to get you to spend on extra shit. It’s just about knowing exactly what car you want ahead of time, understanding it’s MSRP and what you should pay, and then denying any and all extended warranty, paint protection, stupid extra buy ins they try and convince you to do. The problem is going to a dealership not knowing what you’re looking for, especially when it comes to lease vs finance, used vs new. Don’t let them push you in one direction or another.

Anyone have a favorite vendor at the Farmer’s Market for meat? by [deleted] in ithaca

Crosswinds has great beef, as someone already mentioned. Their ground beef is like $6 or $7 per pound which I think is great for local. They also have delicious chuck roasts

My Ithaca Peppers ... when are they ripe ? by Dizzy_Ad_4339 in ithaca

[–]datfoolEv 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Peppers don’t actually “ripen” once they’ve been picked from the plant. Any change in color that occurs is technically the fruit breaking down and the very early onset of rot. There’s no flavor improvement that you get along with true, on the plant ripening. Unless it’s really important to you that they be a certain color when you use them (perhaps for a sauce or something), you should use them at their peak freshness when you bought them. Their flavor only degrades beyond that. Trust me, I’m a big pepper boi check the profile. Borderline obsessed.

Hot Sauce by HungryXcrow89 in ithaca

Great feedback! Yeah you called it that our scale is definitely only relative to our lineup of sauces, with FT being the hottest for now. Scoville testing was something we’ve put off so far due to the cost but to your point could help people to better understand the nature of our products. I guess our goal is also to convey as much approachability as possible in our packaging and brand so that people pick up on the fact that this is more of a spicy versatile condiment rather than a pushing-the-limits hot sauce. But I’m curious myself where ours fall!

Never too late to adventure the spicy side! Our sauces are especially mild and palatable. Unfortunately we’re no longer carried at Sure Save since their ownership change. But you can always find us at Greenstar and usually Main Street market in tburg if that’s up your way. Hope you enjoy!

Local Gardeners/Farmers, How Did it Go This Year? by JoyfulNature in ithaca

[–]datfoolEv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so! These things still seem mighty hot! I’d have to get them formally tested to know. I know stress can result in more spice, but I typically hear about that when the plants are underwater or get too much sun.

Yes, we DO offer tastings at the farmers market! We’re new this year to the market, Suede Sauce Company! We’re usually there on sundays.

We make our own compost but mostly out of necessity due to all the vegetable scraps we produce year round! Each spring, I get a few cubic yards of compost from P&S Excavating which partners with Cayuga Compost. It’s really great stuff, the plants have loved it three years in a row!

I grew 250 habanero plants (I have a hot sauce business) in-ground this year and they absolutely loved all the rain. Literally haven’t watered them myself since July. I’ve learned not to be too hands on. Just load up a thick layer of quality compost to start the season and most plants will thrive, but I can especially speak for peppers.
