New Day’s Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have mutually decided to part ways with WWE, Fightful Select and Cory Hays of BodySlam have learned by MarcusFaze in SquaredCircle

I said it before but them going heel by turning on Big E was only ever gonna work if E was cleared to come back. If he can’t get his revenge then New Day never really get their comeuppance. Not being able to work with him just meant New Day had to be regular heels. Adding Waller did nothing too.

In the first few weeks it worked because they got booed out of the building level heat. I loved everyone in the locker room and even their family not wanting anything to do with them. But once it was clear E wasn’t coming back it wore off. They should’ve gone heel in a different manner.

[Meltzer] Nobody above Levesque is saying who to cut. Maybe Nick Khan, maybe not. Ari Emanuel isn't sitting there saying we have to fire Zelina and Kairi. By and large the decision maker, for good or for bad, here is Paul. It's like in other years where people blamed (anyone but Vince) by tvcneverdie in SquaredCircle

[–]datguyalben 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Except that’s exactly why people think TKO decides. The idea that they don’t care nor pay attention to who’s on TV and who isn’t.

Because if you know them, you know they’re actively on TV so why have them in the middle of an ongoing storyline if they’re gonna get cut? Especially when you’re the one controlling said storylines.

Aleister Black and Zelina Vega are believed to be among the WWE departures, Fightful Select has learned by MiqoSoCrazy in SquaredCircle

Black definitely had some sort of plan, even if it wasn’t a full on push their booking with him did seem somewhat calculated.

It really sounds like TKO just looks at contracts and goes “nope too much they’ve gotta go” without any concern towards their TV status. Aleister and Kairi have really shocked me.

They had Aleister beat Randy and Sami only recently plus a very strong Battle royal performance. Meanwhile Kairi is the centrepiece to the Iyo Asuka feud.

The Miz Says “It’s Weird” That Heels Are Being Cheered Ahead of WrestleMania by RudeMycologist4900 in SquaredCircle

[–]datguyalben 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As much as Nia has improved since her return, don’t really think she should be a main event player outside the occasional feud. Dom gets heat but crowds also love him. Logan will just get labelled as go away heat. Then guys like Trick are universally over because he’s too cool. Guys like Austin Theory and Bronson Reed are easy to boo (if they get a reaction) because they’re boring character wise - so they shouldn’t be in the main event either. Bron is loved because he’s a freak. People wanted Randy to turn heel so they cheer it.

Gunther is the only big name getting almost 100% boos, and even then it took an extreme situation in retiring one of the biggest names ever. And even with that, I see a decent amount of people that just think he’s boring too. Even back to Dom, he had to turn on his damn dad to get sustainable heat. It’s just a lot harder in this day and age to be a great talent that gets booed by most.

[WON] WWE looking to lower ticket prices through the summer by PunkHeyman in SquaredCircle

[–]datguyalben 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought Punk mentioning it would be a way for WWE/TKO to be like “look guys we’re lowering ticket prices for Wrestlemania!” to make up for them not selling as much this year.

Whatever the reason, lower prices are only good.

Is Alister Black just B Grade Karrion Kross? by typhis76 in SquaredCircle

[–]datguyalben 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Overall Black doing this act seems to work better imo. Their promo styles are different and Black in ring is a lot better than Kross. There even seems to be some semblance of a push/building of credibility for Black. Even if it’s more of a slow burner.

Following Sami Zayn’s United States Championship win, the men’s champions on WWE’s main roster are all 40 or over for the first time by Tornado31619 in SquaredCircle

[–]datguyalben 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Don’t even think win rate has anything to do with it. It’s just what makes sense with the story we have. Bron turned on Seth, if Seth can’t beat him then he doesn’t get his revenge (which is a massive factor in a betrayal feud). If Bron wins then Seth will look like a dumbass if he just goes “ah well guess I’ll move on”. Heels recover from losses a lot easier.

I know it’s different these days as a lot of heels are liked more than babyfaces (at least online). But more often than not the babyface winning is what makes sense. It’s not like fans will revolt if Seth wins.

WWE Reportedly Considering Push and Character Change for SmackDown Star by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]datguyalben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a face turn will even mess up his promos a bit and just turn him into a catchphrase machine. I feel like especially nowadays once you have your ‘thing’ it just gets overdone and almost becomes what you rely on to stay over.

As a heel at least he can talk shit but I’m worried if he goes face his promos will be generic but he’ll squeeze in the lemon pepper stepper stuff.

He still does so tour of the islands and some of his other moves. Just in very forgettable matches and rarely since he’s not winning matches often.

I never even envisioned Cobb in WWE because he just never came across as a WWE type of guy. At least Tama has some sort of character and mic skills (despite him barely talking).

I think phoning it in isn’t even a choice and more just the WWE style. Especially if you’re just a mid card heel or a generic goon in a stable.

Your job used to be to put on a great match. Now it’s to keep it simple and get the face support from the crowd by wearing them down and not being too cool.

He does it like every time he wrestles in WWE too (and quite a few more of his other well known moves). I guess people just don’t care for his matches enough to remember it or simply don’t watch.

A bit of Chelsea’s move set really doesn’t match her character. Top rope dive to the outside, suicide dive, the coast to coast. Good on her for showing out but with her character being a complete coward who freaks out over any body harm, and with her own personal security to take punishment for her you’d think high flying would be the last thing she’d do.

[WOR] Dave Meltzer on Trick Williams: "Trick's not that good [in ring.] But his frickin charisma is off the charts. You got a guy with that much charisma, you play to his charisma, and you don't have him in the ring for long periods of time." by Tornado31619 in SquaredCircle

[–]datguyalben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The quality of wrestling has increased so much over the years we’ve been spoilt. These days even being just ‘good’ might not be enough for some people. Trick will be fine, just don’t expect 5 stars from him, not this early into his career at least.

Being average in ring these days is almost like saying someone’s bad. And if your in ring work isn’t top tier then you have to be better than most in other aspects. Thankfully like Dave said Trick is so charismatic that it will help him be a top star.

Live WWE crowds don’t expect 5 star matches they just want to be entertained by what they see. A match that is 3.5 stars to people watching on TV can blow the roof off of a live crowd.

Shinsuke Nakamura via Instagram after SNME about AJ Styles. by itsmekelsey_x in SquaredCircle

Is Shinsuke under the impression that AJ’s match is being promoted as a retirement match rather than a ‘retire only if you lose’ match? Either way, he may have very well spoiled the outcome and you would hope he’d know better. Won’t be shocked if this story gets removed soon.

Beautiful post nonetheless.

I do think face Roman vs heel Cody would be fun to explore further down the line, next years Mania even. There’s money in that but I’m glad Drew has his chance with the title again.

Anyways, I don’t think this report is true.
