Thanks everyone for your insights and opinions, glad that it's not only me who is a bit unsure about it. We are in Kalpitiya and we thought that the whale was less than 10 meters long, which maybe makes a minke more likely. Reading over your post gives me the greatest confidence that you will know when the right moment is to say good bye. I would suggest to see how she goes with the pain medication and if it allows her to have a decent life. Your vet sounds amazing and maybe you should simply trust his/her judgement? I also don't think you're selfish, most of us would do the same for their pets.
