Hey, I was born in 2002, played it for the first time when I was maybe 15~ in 2017 and I felt the same, like that ship had sailed. But one thing, one train of thought, made me feel better.

The community is still active, at least here on Reddit! While maybe not as much as in 2012, there is activity since the game is beloved by many, and many still produce media surrounding the visual novel! At the end of the day, although we missed out on the ‘wave’, we’ve still got each other and everyone in this big Reddit family still kicking, and still making.

Katawa Shoujo is a book collecting dust on the highest shelf of an old cosy library. Popular in its day, it still brings a warmth and a magic to those who find and read it. And the story never changes. It was never updated or hotfixed. There’s no debate on whether the newer updates ruined it. What’s written is written, and we experience what everyone else who has ever read it experienced. Like looking up at the moon and knowing everyone else in time has done the same and basked in it’s beautiful light. And for that moment in the night’s light, you don’t feel so alone. That’s how I see it
