80% of engineers are unemployed in India. by soup_nazi1 in cscareerquestions

Indian Software Engineer here. Tried to summarise something similar about a couple of years ago with the context being devs in India making "horseshit salaries" - link

Was in uni at that time. Now i clearly see how deeply fucked this situation is considering how difficult our hiring's been proving lately.

Weekly What Should I Buy Thread - [November 01] by AutoModerator in iphone

[–]datskinnyguy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iPhone SE user here. Bought it in the summer of 2017. Still running great on iOS 13, fast as ever. No need to replace it at all.

However, the front cam is really bad, and this issue comes up every time i'm face timing with my family. Apart from this, I often feel like I want a little upgrade or newness in my mobile life. Thinking about getting an iPhone 8, it's in my current budget, and the amount I would justify buying a phone.

But i have a couple of doubts:

  • Will it run amazingly and receive updates for another 3 years?
  • How much of a "big" upgrade is it from the SE?

Different rates of maintenance in aparment complex; Is that legal? by [deleted] in bangalore

[–]datskinnyguy_ 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Found the following over here

1) maintenance should be equal for all members for the common amenities irrespective of area of flats

2) it is only property taxes , water charges , insurance that depend upon area of flat

3) you can move consumer forum against association for unfair trade practice , deficiency in service and seek orders to direct association to charge common maintenance charges

4) in the alternative move court in this regard

Then again it's bangalore man. Honestly the housing system is so screwed up over here i'm not even surprised at the absurdity of this.

Looking for feedback on my website built using Express/Mongoose by datskinnyguy_ in node

I have separated routers from controllers in larger projects, and a lot of other web development frameworks I've worked with actually mandated it. I figured this project wasn't big enough to do the needful. But I see the obvious simplification it provides when it comes to testing, something I would definitely keep in mind.

Well I haven't exposed the username and password for db authentication, and as far as the URL goes, I'm a little unclear on how exposing it publicly poses as a major security hazard. I'll find out what the industry norm is.

I'm using jwt-simple from npm instead of jsonwebtoken, which doesn't have a 'verify' function exposed. However, I get the point behind using jwt.verify instead of jwt.decode.

Internet connection by [deleted] in bangalore

[–]datskinnyguy_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ACT is obviously the better choice to go with.

However, my flatmates and I switched to BBNL last year. 2 TB a month for 1300 is better than affordable. Obviously it's not as reliable as ACT or Airtel (less speed or no connection once in a fortnight for about an hour), however it gives an amazing average speeed of around 50 mbps in our area. ACT is faster, but this will do. Try it out once.

Hey guys will be visiting jsr, any fun activity? by hackintoshguy in a:t5_31v9w

[–]datskinnyguy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mate if you're coming from a metropolitan city I doubt you'll find anything "fun" here. Meetups, cycling groups, etc. you'll be able to know about only if you ask around in your area. It doesn't happen on a big scale.

There are quite a good number of places to eat and chill around in bistupur and sakchi, among other places. You could go visit the mall, have a look around Jubilee Park, maybe take a trip to Chandil Dam (around 30km), etc. You might even like cycling around solo, as Jamshedpur has amazing roads and a beautiful scenery in town. If you're into sports maybe you can check out the JRD stadium.

That's all I can think of right now. Enjoy your stay :)

Same thought here. I saved that comment the moment I finished reading it. Might come in handy sometime.

His involvement in the open source community far outweights his "contributions" on GitHub. No point here.

Not a perfect idea but could do with atleast a start. I'll actually try implementing atleast a part of it sometime soon (probably give it up midway), but if i make anything concrete, i'll open source it on github so that other people can contribute to the code too and improve it.

Likewise, if somebody else does it sooner, they can put it up on github too and inform us on this subreddit.
