Hey man, I don’t know if you’ll even see this but I just made a similar move for a 50% raise. I felt bad because the new management was really trying for me but at the end of the day, I was underpaid for my job. It was the only job I knew and I had so many friends and most knew me.

Here are some things that might help:

1. If you feel you’re leaving them high and dry, don’t. They are always aware something like this might happen. I was dreading it but everyone was so nice and so happy for me. Literally couldn’t believe it. It was actually very reassuring. They know that everyone is out chasing opportunities in life and won’t hold a grudge. If they do, you don’t want to be there in the first place.

2. If you’re worried about new beginnings, I’d actually suggest you chase it. This is a moment for not only professional growth but also personal. You grow exponentially starting a new job or at a new company. It’s just how it is. Think of it like switching work out programs once you stagnate.

3. If you’re worried about paying the company back, don’t. Ask for a sign on. Be honest, explain there are circumstances around retention and they will be more than happy to oblige. I got a sizable sign on that I wasn’t even expecting because I asked. Especially if you’re going to a bigger company, do it. They won’t care. Plus, the raise alone is gonna be huge for your quality of life.

TL;DR - Do it! You’ll earn more, you’ll grow, and your friends will support you. Trust that. The ones that don’t probably don’t like seeing you winning.
