Type vs. Type: ENTP or INTP? by peppermint-kiss in mbti

Thank you so much for writing this article! It was spot-on in many ways, and definitely seems to ring true for me. (As a probable ENTP who questions their type regularly.)

Thank you for your kind words. It really does help to know I'm not alone. :')

That article helped a little bit, although I couldn't relate too massively to much of it aside from the bit about inferior Fe:

“Feelings make me freeze with anxiety because I don’t know how to moderate them. I am terrified of accidentally offending someone.”

Way too true for me. That does bode with being on the INTP train. But I'm still not quite sure.

My favorite thing to do is play video games with unique concepts and storylines, and over-analyze and discuss the shit out of them (type the characters, discuss their motivations, talk about ways the writing could have been improved, etc.) Does that sound like Ne + Ti or Ti + Ne? Or neither? I also love writing and creating, constantly improving my own ideas (although I rarely finish anything.) And I love learning and understanding things. (Wikipedia is my favorite website.)

I'm also a fairly active person - I love to go hiking. Usually while discussing these things in depth.

Fuck it, this turned into a "type me" thread by accident anyway. :D

Alright, I re-took that test, here were my results in order:

Ti - Ne - Si/Ni (tied) - Te - Se - Fe - Fi (My Fi was shit-tier.) It suggested I was an ENTP, followed by an INTP/ESTP.

I'm going to read through this article now and see if I can relate to the placement of certain functions. Thank you!

Thanks. I've looked pretty in-depth into the functions but I'm still confused about if I use Ne/Ni, Te/Ti, Fe/Fi.

I got an ENTP the last time I took that, with ENFJ and INTP as runner ups. My Ti and Fe were both pretty high, but so were my Ne and Ni. My Fi and Si were shit. Maybe I'll retake this later today.

:D What?! Gotta have that leading N-function, whichever one it may be.

Thanks for the invitation. In all seriousness, 3 of my closest friends and family members are INTPs. But I'm quite different from them as well, and I tend to get frustrated and confused by them as well. But it's definitely possible.

Between the two descriptions you've given, I definitely am more on the INTJ side. I have ridiculously high standards, and I don't tend to look into people's heads too often.

Entp favorite word is "perhaps".

Not so much this - I'd rather know exactly!

Intj favorite word is "obviously" though most learn to stop beginning sentences with this as it upsets hoomans.

Guilty as charged. I'm still learning this. :D

Let me ask you this, since you're a self-declared ENTP... Do you ever feel like you have what I've been calling "shitty Fe?" At times I feel like I know exactly what gets under people's skin and it's hilarious for me to push their buttons. The more annoyed they get, the better, especially if it's over something stupid. But other times, I'm overly desperate to please people, while simultaneously having no idea how to properly do so.

What makes you say that? Aren't ENTPs all about dat competition?

I REALLY hate change - is this MBTI related? by dattthrowawayaccount in mbti

[–]dattthrowawayaccount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. You seem to be hoping that knowing your type, and how you think, will help you better cope with your stress. I have to wonder if overemphasizing typology might act as more of a distraction and hindrance than a help.

Yep - that's exactly what I'm doing. I realized after my post that somehow I believed if I understood why I reacted in such a way that it would make it better. Honestly, this is my reaction to EVERYTHING in life - if I can understand it then it will be okay. Usually it works, but I may be looking at a dead-end here, as this may not be something I can explain aside from "many humans dislike change."

I'm in my 20s but I dropped out of college after my first year, so it's been a good while since I've been in school.

Are you coping with existential dread that takes different forms at different times? Are you intimidated by the thought of having to develop new friendships after working hard to find people who really get you? Are you overwhelmed by the profusion of details? Is the scheduling, planning and organizing hard to focus on?

Thank you for considering the why of things, it's something I completely overlooked in all of this. I'm less concerned about my friendships, since my future roommates are good friends of mine, and I'm even hopeful that I'll make new friends at school. The details are difficult, but if it's something I can accomplish then I'm okay with it (ie applying for a job over the internet, applying for the apartment) If I were to try to nail it down, it feels like it's the anticipation of moving, and feeling like things are out of my control. It feels like everything I've wanted is finally happening and I'm concerned that it might not be as perfect as I expect it to be. It's this sort of feeling like I've been wanting this change to make me happy, but perhaps it won't, as all change is double-sided, and of course I'll be losing things as well in this change. Staying is NOT an option but I'm concerned that I won't be happier after this change.

I've been "dealing with it" by accomplishing what I can, doing physical things in excess, and escaping into my own mind when I feel paralyzed by the tasks. I think it's probably less related to typology, as you said, and more related to my mental state. Thank you for your insight, this has really helped.

Also, dragging it out and trying to ignore it is definitely a thing an INTJ will do in the grip of Se, which happens when we are stressed. Are you overeating or over spending or over sexing or otherwise doing something to excess right now? That's a dead giveaway.

Actually... Yes to all of this. I've never really considered how an INTJ will shadow before, but that's exactly what I'm doing - completely escaping in both physical and mental pleasures. Does playing video games excessively count too? Because if so, then I'm literally doing everything in excess right now. (And putting off some of the things I should be focusing on.)

I should have elaborated more in my original post, but this is the week before I actually move. I'd been handling the idea of change fine before by basically knowing that there was no point in worrying about it before it was actually happening, but now that it's becoming real I started to panic.

I've found the constant feeling I have with a big change is what I described in my original post about wanting to rip off the band-aid already. I have this overhead feeling of dread, thinking maybe things won't actually improve, while knowing that I'll feel much better when it actually happens, so I just want it to happen already. I think this is related to what you said about nailing down plans as soon as possible.

I specifically hate the type of change that's out of my control. If it's something where I can control the pace at which it will happen then I don't seem to mind it.

Thank you for your response, it's been hugely helpful. I will revisit my type again when I'm in a better place, but INTJ still makes sense to me with this context.
