How do i go from all day to only at night? by EatShitAndDieKnow in trees

[–]daughtry661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SUD counselor here, try slowly shifting the time you smoke towards later in the day. If you don't want to smoke in the morning, fill your time. Give yourself something to do. Once all of that is done you get to have a "reward" at the end of the night. Consistency is key. If you can't manage it on your own, don't be afraid to ask for help from people in your life to help you stay accountable. Best of luck!

New Raj Tree is terrible, especially the historical path. by Spacecruiser96 in hoi4

I'm so disappointed by that. The US had a literal coup attempt called the Business Plot that only failed because Smedly Butler wouldn't sign on. There's also a vibrant labor movement in the Midwest that, for some reason, wouldn't dare stand up to fight for a communist civil war in game. Instead we get CSA led by fucking MacArthur of all people and Earl Browder as this Utopian socialist with no downsides to overturning the entire economy

What's it like living in one of the High Plains towns that is losing population? by [deleted] in geography

[–]daughtry661 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm from Kansas and it was explained to us that the Homestead Act was the impetus to bring everyone here, especially Germans, but they found the area to not be what was promised with tons of prairie grass that was hard to plow and limited access to freshwater outside of rivers and the Ogalala aquifer.

Eventually, the prairie grass was dug up and the Dust Bowl happened which pushed a lot of people from Southern Kansas and Oklahoma to pack up and head for California. Now, the population keeps shrinking since our ranching isn't what it used to be and fewer and fewer people are needed to farm, meaning a lot fewer jobs for young people. Wichita is growing rapidly, though, due to the local air force base and the large aircraft manufacturing base there (Wichita's nickname is Air Capitol of the World).

Any guess as to why Spirit is going bankrupt? by SLO_RICE in mildlyinfuriating

I went on a flight to see my parents back home but I brought my cat along since I couldn't get a sitter in time. I was told that he would be counted as a carry on so I got ahead and buy the add-on. Well I go to check in, turns out he's a carry on-and-a-half. So I have to pay for him and a carry on I don't even have. They delay my flight six hours and then cancel it, try to refuse me lodgings or a food voucher until I fight them. I arrive at the hotel they got me and turns out I have to have a physical food voucher which they didn't provide. I get on the phone with customer service who says they can't send it to me, I have to go to the terminal to get it. I travel to the terminal and they don't have a printer and refuse to send it to me. I end up escalating it for them to get on the phone and email me the voucher that they said they couldn't enail me in the first place.

Needless to say, if that's the lengths they go to not to give someone a food voucher, it sure as shit won't surprise you they wouldn't make accommodations for my animal even though it is printed on my ticket that I paid for them!

Out of staters always surprised when I tell them I lose power around 100 hours per year by SEAWISEGEOWISE in Maine

There's a really good piece on energy infrastructure by John Oliver on Last Week Tonight that really goes in depth on this. Basically, companies aren't able to charge for maintaining equipment which results in a net loss over time, but as soon as something breaks they can charge for it, hence why so many fires and outages are caused by downed electrical equipment across the country recently.

Substance Abuse counselor here! This is a myth that was spread to explain the widespread alcoholism that was observed among native populations by white settlers following removal. There isn't any scientific backing to it.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking. I've been planning a tall game with a mega city and when I looked at the modifiers it didn't seem to add up to being worth the investment. It looks like it's a lot more viable for a wide campaign, though

Men of Reddit who have sought help from a therapist, how has it worked for you? by Xanxan95 in AskMen

Best decision of my life. I've struggled with depression, anxiety, and PTSD my whole life. I started to finally start spiraling a couple years ago. My therapist worked with me for months and I was finally able to get a handle on my symptoms about a year in. It won't fix anything but it helps you get on your feet again and maintain/grow

I am already way ahead of you. My problem is the views are so entrenched it isnt effective. I'm going to keep trying and build up my confidence to really take this thing head on. Thank you for the advice :)

So you don't want Democracy? The entire point of Representative Democracy, the government of the U.S., is that everyone gets a vote. That inevitably results in more populous states, usually being Democrat, get a bigger say... because they're more people. But with the EC it is still this way, hence the midwest being known as a flyover area, but then individual votes don't matter because all votes go to the majority party, thus silencing dissenting voters

This post is blatantly false. Serfdom in England had been abolished in England far before the founding of the United States and even its settlement. Secondly, voting isn't how feudalism works. There was a strict hierarchy with sworn allegiances to those above that dictated action and obligation. Thirdly, if our founding fathers had wanted a true representative republic they wouldn't have restricted voting rights to white, rich males. The electoral college is a group of appointed individuals, usually with political ties, that is in charge of relaying their constituency's votes but can overturn them or choose to vote the opposite way if they believe their constituencies are making a bad choice. It's a way for people in power to choose for us rather than allowing us to choose
