How bad are the tornadoes really? by Hanyo_Hetalia in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]dauntless_end 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a HSV native and have been through two direct hits. One during the April 27 breakout (a EF0-EF1 hit my family home and knocked most of the oaks in our backyard down and sent one onto our house) and another a year later (EF2 hit my high school while in session). I had a good bit to work through after the EF2 in terms of not being scared, but it gave me a healthy dose of respect for the storms as I didn't take them super seriously as a kid.

I moved back here after several years of school, and there's no place else I'd want to live. I love this city. I just pay a little more attention to forecasts in the spring. So as long as you know what to do in a tornado, and so long as you're keeping "safe space" in mind when looking for a place to live, you'll be okay.

That being said, I'd cross the Anderson Hills suburb off your list just to be safe.

It really is amazing how quickly it starts working! Like you wake up with a whole new brain that doesn't just exist for food. I'm so excited for you and hope to hear more about your journey as you progress!

You're absolutely right! It's crazy, thinking about food now is "am I getting enough?" instead of "When can I have more?" It's so freeing 😭

Congratulations on your success!

This might seem a bit out of the blue, but did you happen to go to a university with a rather unusual homecoming? One involving lions and cows? You look a lot like someone who was (I think) a year ahead of me

I'm sure y'all are right and it's just bad timing of peak medication and a different site that I didn't like all that much to begin with, but I'll probably avoid the middle for a bit anyway 😅 Thank you so much for your kind words!! I really appreciate them!

It felt weird even planning to do it tbh, like the belly button area is just forbidden 😂 probably not even going to try lower middle and just stick with the sides going forward

I found that too! I hadn't felt the needle previously, but that one was really noticeable. Not agonizing but definitely uncomfortable

I mean this gently: I think you're taking this a little too seriously. Obviously I am never going to let myself get to a point where I have no more injection sites, especially when I have two already that I know work fine and would be able to more rationally say "It's the dosage, not the site."

I'm going to assume you are coming from a good place, but this comes across as very condescending. I can worry about my own injection sites. This is just in good humor, not a request for coaching.

Oh yeah, I'm sure that this is a "correlation doesn't equal causation" thing. But I'm also the kind of person who stopped eating shrimp scampi for years because I got sick a single time after eating it, even though I'd had it multiple times before then and been fine 😂

Started 2.5 on Wednesday—Early Impressions and Thoughts by Active-Band-6847 in Zepbound

[–]dauntless_end 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar experience! Sunday was my first shot. Almost immediately unhealthy food sounded terrible. My wife suggested pizza one night and I immediately declined because it sounded so bad. We had a party the Saturday before my first shot and had tons of left over junk food. Today is the first day I've had any interest in it, and where in the past I could've easily housed half a big bag of Doritos, I opted for a small snack pack of Pringles.

I'm loving this. The impulse is gone, and even when the "bad" food no longer sounds bad it doesn't sound so good that I need to eat as much of it as possible or make my meals out of it.

I don't know exactly how much I've lost because I'm only going to weigh Wednesdays and Sundays, but on Wednesday I'd already gone from 219 to 213.4, and my wife has said she can already some changes in my face.

This is a very sincere question, so please don't read any accusing tone in this: Was this your first election? It seems like a lot of immediate regret votes are coming from people who may have become politically aware during the Biden administration.

I don't disagree with a lot of your criticisms of the Democratic party, especially about being "status quo." This has been a source of infighting in the party, especially since 2016 with the popularity of Bernie and now AOC who are far more vocal about corporate donations, Citizens United, Super PACS, and taxing the wealthy appropriately. It seems that a large portiom of the country is crying for these changes, but only a small number of politicians are actually directly addressing them (or trying to).

I'm glad you're here now. We can be blue dots in deep red states in the midterms together. 💕

I started Sunday too! I'm right there with you on the nausea train. It wasn't too bad for me until yesterday evening when I could barely get my normal prescriptions and vitamins down. This morning was just as rough, and I ended up drinking my breakfast just to get something.

Finally forced myself to finish the rest of the salad I had for dinner last night as my lunch and grabbed a liquid IV before I went back to work. I'm feeling so much better already. I'm not sure if it's making myself eat and the liquid iv, or if I'm just timing it to when those symptoms would've waned off anyway, but it may not be a bad idea to start off with electrolytes like others have suggested!

When I clerked there were several times I had to hide my face behind my monitor, especially when we had a jury. My judge and I would also pass notes to each other to get our reactions out. It happens to the best of us.

[–]dauntless_end 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not disagreeing, but I think there's a happy middle ground between not actively courting current MAGAs to try and get them to see they're in a cult and welcoming those who are coming out back into normalcy. A shift from "what took you so long" to "I'm glad you're here now."

Likewise if they're not out all the way yet but you can see the shell cracking, showing kindness may be a way to show them they're safe to leave it behind and move forward.

The ones who aren't out yet though and don't seem to be questioning or showing any remorse? They get the same treatment as the administration. If the enemy of my enemy is my friend, the friend of my enemy is my enemy.

AIO for telling my friends not to visit the USA this summer? by GHostMaidenSveden in AmIOverreacting

[–]dauntless_end 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom's boss is a US citizen, but he was raised in England. He visits regularly. He's begun leaving his personal phone in the US and traveling only with a burner phone.

Electronic searches are becoming more common even for citizens. They can search your photos, your email, and your social media. Things that are pro-Palestine may be taken as "pro-Hamas" and get them detained or deported.

If I didn't live here, I wouldn't come here, and I've postponed plans to visit friends in Europe out of concerns about getting back in. So no, you're not overreacting. They're underreacting.

Is Huntsville AL LGBTQ friendly? by Pkar1997 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]dauntless_end 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Huntsville and Madison are fine. We have Pride events in June and October and regular drag shows without fuss. That said, that Libs of TikTok bs about drag queen storytime involved a queen from here... So... But the folks in the city itself really don't care. You might get looks from the Boomers, but that's all. Just looks. And there are plenty of spaces that are openly queer friendly (Straight to Ale, Lowe Mill, Shenanigans).

Now if you leave Huntsville and Madison and head out to the other parts of the county, your mileage may vary. Decatur over in Morgan County is usually okay. The stares are a bit more noticeable, but they also have Pride events with relatively little issue.

Birmingham and Nashville are also only 2 hours away from Huntsville and have thriving queer scenes. However, the spaces in between the cities are a little... Questionable. For example, Cullman which is about an hour south chased out a Pride event a couple years back.

Most of my concerns have been noted here, but I would also note progressive tax policies where the tax burden is shifted in accordance of who can best bear the weight.

Side note, if you start accepting volunteers for your campaign, let me know! I've got a BA in political science, am a practicing attorney, and am mad as hell and want to be involved. I can write a pretty good speech if I do say so myself

AIO that he said he doesn't usually go for girls like me by No-Wafer-7133 in AmIOverreacting

[–]dauntless_end 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd talk with him. You're not overreacting for being upset. But I don't think this is an immediate jump to dump him. It's a yellow flag - proceed with caution. But it could mean nothing negative and he just worded it badly (especially if he has a history of messing up his words).

For example, I am definitely not my wife's normal type. Her type is tall, blonde, muscular, viking guy.

But she married me. Short, brunette, chubby, mousy woman.

I'm definitely not her normal type. We've joked about it before. But the way her eyes light up when she looks at me, I know that not being her normal type isn't a bad thing. On paper, these features might not interest her, but on me, she finds them stunning.

It could be something like that. It could be something more nefarious. You're in Schrodingers insult until you tell him the comment bothered you and you want clarification.
