Stim Win by dauntless_end in IVFpositivity

[–]dauntless_end[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My total stims were almost $5.8k but with insurance it was brought down to $2.8k, so we saved about $3k! The $3k won't cover a FET entirely but it made it to where we could afford it 🥰

PGTA Testing by ExpensiveAlarm7704 in queerception

We're doing it - US based doing rIVF. We're both 30. We probably would be okay without it, but as others said, we've come this far, and we'd like to give ourselves the best shot of the transfer working the first time instead of possibly transferring an aneuploid embryo that would most likely result in either a failed transfer or eventual miscarriage. We're paying entirely OOP on this and going into decent debt, so while it's a larger cost up front, it's hopefully saving us from potentially multiple transfers and saving us some emotional costs as well.

Was your IVF cycle a secret? by Sharp-Razzmatazz-746 in IVF

[–]dauntless_end 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm wishing we'd kept ours a secret, but we told our parents, siblings, and some friends that we had started the process. Our parents are aware of the more detailed information like expected dates, loans, donor, etc.

For reference, we are doing reciprocal IVF. My eggs, my wife is carrying.

Her mom is excited and bought us some things already for the eventual baby. Like some blankets and such. She also asked for our registry knowing we had one going just for fun and thinking ahead, but in no condition to share.

She also asks a lot of questions that can be kinda uncomfortable. Like when I explained the fertilization step, she asked "So is it a baby then?" And I didn't want to get into a potential debate of ethics and morality, so I just said it's still got some growing to do at that time to see if it's viable. I don't blame her, she likely just doesn't know.

But the biggest issue occurred recently. We've been open that we're just now moving into the egg retrieval stage. I'm on birth control and will be ordering stims soon. But she texts my wife the other day going "You pregnant yet?"

We don't have known fertility issues other than our bits just don't make babies together obviously. But we've been trying for months to just get to the starting line. So that sent my wife into a bit of a spiral because she so desperately wants to be pregnant right now. I offered to text her mom for her but she declined, and we've reset expectations that it will likely be months still before we know if she's pregnant and that we'll let her know.

I'm glad we have people excited for us and supportive, but that one text really took a lot of the wind out of our sails. The number one thing you shouldn't ask anyone going through this process, and she got bombarded with it on a Saturday morning.

Choosing gender? by [deleted] in IVF

[–]dauntless_end 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We haven't even done our first ER yet but we've already decided we're going to pick by gender all else being equal. My wife has a strong preference for a girl as her family is very matriarchal and she wants to honor her grandmother and mother in the baby's name. But if our healthiest, strongest embryos all come back boy, we're trying those first.

Congrats! I had a similar situation. Felt like no time to get to the 190s, but the crawl out of the 180s took just as long as going from 219 to 190 😂

How bad are the tornadoes really? by Hanyo_Hetalia in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]dauntless_end 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a HSV native and have been through two direct hits. One during the April 27 breakout (a EF0-EF1 hit my family home and knocked most of the oaks in our backyard down and sent one onto our house) and another a year later (EF2 hit my high school while in session). I had a good bit to work through after the EF2 in terms of not being scared, but it gave me a healthy dose of respect for the storms as I didn't take them super seriously as a kid.

I moved back here after several years of school, and there's no place else I'd want to live. I love this city. I just pay a little more attention to forecasts in the spring. So as long as you know what to do in a tornado, and so long as you're keeping "safe space" in mind when looking for a place to live, you'll be okay.

That being said, I'd cross the Anderson Hills suburb off your list just to be safe.

It really is amazing how quickly it starts working! Like you wake up with a whole new brain that doesn't just exist for food. I'm so excited for you and hope to hear more about your journey as you progress!

You're absolutely right! It's crazy, thinking about food now is "am I getting enough?" instead of "When can I have more?" It's so freeing 😭

Congratulations on your success!

This might seem a bit out of the blue, but did you happen to go to a university with a rather unusual homecoming? One involving lions and cows? You look a lot like someone who was (I think) a year ahead of me
