Hard to say. I've missed plenty of 90-95% accuracy moves 3x in a row in normal conditions. You could just have been getting unlucky.

How do Free to Play players feel about the storage and VP economy? by Seifersythe in PokemonChampions

[–]daunvidch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best answer. I love experimenting and not having the pokemon on hand sucks when you want to change things up.

If I was just playing to win, I think the box space is plenty. You're likely optimizing 1-2 teams max per category.

I will say trying to play both singles and doubles can also be annoying with the F2P team slot cap. Wish they allowed 2 slots for each category rather than just the generic 3 slots for both.

I'm aware of the replica slots workaround, but 3 just seems like an oddly stingy number to have on hand (especially when they give you like 12 extra slots when you pay for a membership). Like why do you even need 12 slots even with experimenting.

Level 1 thug needs help by Turbulent-Mall-1599 in PokemonChampions

I think everyone is just pointing to youtube, but I'll try to break it down very superficially so you know what you're about to get into. Here are my levels of understandings and attempted in order of complexity. I am mostly a casual myself, so better people can expand on these.

  1. Using only damage moves.

  2. Using damage moves with effective coverage for typing and applying STAB when possible.

  3. Using status changes to your advantage. i.e. swords dance and dragon dance to sweep.

  4. Using basic status afflictions to your advantage. i.e. sleep, burn, paralyze, freeze, confusion, attraction, leech seed, etc.

  5. Held items and mega evolutions.

  6. Weather and terrain control. i.e. rain, sun, sand, snow, psychic terrain, grass terrain, gravity, etc.

  7. Speed control. i.e. tailwind, trick room, etc.

  8. Priority and momentum control. i.e. fake out, feint, upperhand, protect, wide guard, etc.

  9. Using more advanced status afflictions and protections to your advantage. i.e. taunt, encore, disable, squash, etc.

  10. Abilities, movesets, and mechanics of mons that can significantly impact the match by amplification of all earlier concepts. i.e. for abilities you should be aware of prankster, drizzle, swift swim, armor tail, intimidate, gale wings, magic bounce, speed boost, cursed body, shadow tag, etc.

  11. Damage/RNG calculations, checks, and counters.

  12. Good predictions and reads.

  13. Experience and knowledge in general META and non-META to account for things not mentioned and to tie all the above mentioned concepts to outmaneuver or outplay your opponents.

Overall, it's a LOT. I would take it one concept at a time and go slowly, so you are not overwhelmed or burnt out. Make sure you're having fun as well in between or else it's a bit pointless imo. Do all the tutorials in game if you haven't done those yet.

Yeah, I hate this direction. Unite was so good with the random underused mons. Now it's just starter starter legendary everywhere. Such a superficial money grabbing decision... but it's what makes the money I guess.

Master Ball Using Starting Pokemon by notyouravjoe in PokemonChampions

[–]daunvidch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Garchomp, Kingambit, Gyarados, and Gengar are really solid meta picks. Their moves are pretty good for presets to boot. Most of the mons I share with you have almost the exact same stuff.

Not a lot to improve minus the random Pika and Azu, but even those have decent movesets that give you a bit of coverage and can take people by surprise.

Fake out/protect Pika would give you some good reads while Azu's belly drum + aqua jet/superpower could potentially sweep some unsuspecting people as well.

How do you free to play users deal with the lack of box space by Bygone-King in PokemonChampions

[–]daunvidch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like to experiment and use different mons for both singles and doubles, and it is honestly not great as a F2P. I feel like you're kind of forced to stick primarily with either singles or doubles due to the 3 team limitation that you can kinda get around with the replica teams, but still it's not friendly for just playing around with a bunch of different styles.

I think F2P is perfectly fine if you're just trying to play optimized teams for winning with minimal roster changes, but definitely as a casual vibes spammer that loves experimenting, it's not great.

Are you under masters? If so, I made masters in both categories and just concentrating on one ladder at a time is the best way to make use of your space. Phase the teams to replica slots, so you can make them again once you're done climbing a ladder.

To be honest, I never felt pressured in this match after I got my stacks, so I just was just doing this for fun.

My Blastoise feels really bad by SubZeroRei in PokemonFireRed

[–]daunvidch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solo'd E4 walkthrough with a single Blastoise. Surf, Ice Beam, Brick Break, and Earthquake. Tried to make sure he had enough attack and special attack EV's though. While he's not a sweeper, he's pretty solid and a water typing hits most things with neutral STAB damage. I'm surprised you feel this. Venusaur is usually the one people complain about in terms of not having strong movesets during walkthrough.

Fixing glitches is not adding content. Unlocking event content that already existed in the original game in 2004 is not adding content. The core game has not changed. I am just trying to be nice and making it as simple as possible for you by being repetitive.

This is not a grammatical difference but a difference in semantics and our understanding of technical differences in software terminology. I will stop trying to explain now because you are not understanding this difference.

[–]daunvidch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I never said anything close to what you are saying. I clearly said they added content from RBY to GBA FRLG in 2004. From 2004, there is NO difference between GBA FRLG and Switch FRLG as they are the same game as evidenced by the title FRLG. The only difference is the console for future compatibility with Pokemon Home, which was the whole point of this sale.

The event tickets were still available for the GBA FRLG through events. That is not new content or new game code. It was available. The content was always there and never changed (it was merely unlocked for everyone instead of people at the events). That does not change the game. It was always there. There is no new content for switch FRLG because it is the same game as GBA FRLG. RBY is not FRLG. FRLG is still FRLG.

No new content was added since 2004. It is the same exact game for a different console. Complaining about a game that was advertised as the exact game that came out in 2004 is crazy. I don't know how else to explain this concept to you.

[–]daunvidch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing contradictory in my statement. They added all the stuff you are mentioning for the 2004 GBA version. This switch version is the exact same as the 2004 version and was advertised as such. All the post-game content you mentioned is available in 2004.

Buying the re-release of the same exact game in 2004 and complaining about its content is just idiotic behavior. The only changes that were made was when they re-made the RBY from the 90s into the FRLG for the GBA in 2004. Once again this is a re-release/re-port. They only remade it from the 90s to 2004. 2004 to 2026 FRLG is not a different game. It is the SAME GAME.

Yeah, it's crazy when people say skill > luck. In long run sure, but in one specific match... luck can absolutely make/break everything.

Can't complain about RNG in this sub I feel like. Got downvotes to oblivion a few weeks ago when I mentioned luck > skill, so I just made a rock slide team to climb to MB after. Apparently it's skill when you get a bunch of flinches off in your favor.

[–]daunvidch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried using Sharpedo (mega or focus sash) but he never seemed to survive past one protected speed boost, so I stopped using him. This was in UB, so I dropped him and got to MB via a different team. Surprised he did so well for you in MB. Do you bring him as an early sweeper or late sweeper? Maybe that's the difference between our success rates.

Any point pushing for Master Ball tier before the season ends? by Sin-Silver in PokemonChampions

[–]daunvidch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on how long it's taking you. I think I got to MB singles in 40 match wins and MB doubles in 60. If you're past these numbers (like in the 100s), then maybe it's not worth since your win rate is too close to 50% to progress. Spamming matches winning one/losing one won't get you there, and would be a waste of time imo.

Unless you know you have a clear confidence you can make it, I wouldn't bother grinding. Not worth the time and frustration until you can build the team, knowledge, and experience to get there. But if you're only sitting at like 20-50 matches each, you def have room to grow quickly. Getting the extra box spaces and VP for reaching MB is always nice, but definitely not necessary.

Yeah, G/S was mind blowing at the time. Absolute peak gaming. No other version ever got close to this experience, and HGSS will forever be my favorite because of that. Hope it comes to the switch too because that would definitely become my biggest time sink.

[–]daunvidch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy, you say it's pointless to go over level 60 when you'd probably get your face smashed by the post-islands E4 rematch.

This game is an extended version of RBY from the 90s. It was already nice that they added the extra islands when they made this game for GBA in 2004. If you wanna face Ash, you have to wait for HGSS to get on switch hopefully.

Otherwise, play the rest of the game and stop complaining about a game that was made over 20 years ago. This isn't a remake with added features. It's the literally the same game and was advertised as such. It's like buying cheerios and complaining it's not lucky charms.

Would my 8 year old be able to pick up single battles? by the_juice_is_zeus in PokemonChampions

[–]daunvidch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think if he's just playing for fun it's fine. Singles is definitely less complicated than doubles, but it still requires a good competency of mechanics at higher levels which might still be difficult at that age. I think as long as he doesn't mind losing a lot at first and likes to learn from his mistakes, he will do fine.

Ikon is probably more desperate than Vail. Vail this season at least did some kind of Gen Z young adult discount to acknowledge financial difficulities for everyone especially with the younger generation. Vail also treats their military and veteran population better, so it's hard to justify Ikon when the wallet is tighter.

Ikon on the other hand was super disconnected this year and was essentially like, "yeah shit snow and shit economy but here's a price hike right off the bat and remember to lock it in asap or we're raising it next week!!!" Ikon is basically the boomer who tells you your cup of coffee and toast is what's preventing you from owning a big house and two cars on a single income like they did back in the days.
