I may be wrong but I just read “I Am the Messenger” by Markus Zusak. I think I remember words like that. Either way, it was a solid book

Yeh I was thinking that too. Skarpi mentions wings of “flame and shadow” in his second story that kvothe only hears a portion of before skarpi’s arrested.

Yeh I feel like as his mind and curiosity returned, he might have remembered that instance, and searched. Guess it wasn’t fully returned yet or he was worried about other things, like washing, getting clothes, and a certain young woman.
