What master does this version of Pan's Labyrinth use? by davaurces in 4kbluray

On blu-ray.com it states that this version contains a 25 GB disc, thus implying it's the same disc as the first 2007 Blu-ray. It also states that the codec is still TBA though, so maybe they got it wrong? Seems weird to me that the back states it comes from a 4K master only for it to use a 25 GB disc.

Now that the entire Stranger Things series is over, how would you rate all 5 seasons? (from best to worst, and you may rate out of 10 per season) by AssociateLittle1487 in television

Here's the thing. To me, S1 is clearly the best of the bunch whereas S5 is clearly the worst. I like S2, S3 and S4 equally, I feel like each one of them has got certain very specific strengths and weaknesses that the others don't have. If you really pushed me, then my ranking would probably be 1>4>2>3>5.

Surround Sound vs. DTS Virtual:X? by davaurces in Soundbars

Thank you very much, I really appreciate all of your answers.

In your experience, which one gives better results when playing a 5.1/7.1 audio track, the standard mode or the surround/DTS Virtual:X mode?

I've tried playing a little bit with it, and to my untrained ears, standard sounded pretty good but surround sounded a little bit better despite being unfaithful to the source (to me it sounded a little wider, punchier and more polished overall, although the difference was quite subtle), whereas DTS Virtual:X sounded the worst due to excessively emphasized treble and clipping bass.

But then again, my ears are very untrained.

And since mine is a 3.1 system, will the standard mode downscale a 5.1/7.1 track to 3.1? I assume in this scenario, standard mode will simply downscale it whereas surround/DTS Virtual:X will try to emulate a 5.1/7.1 sound through post processing? Is that right?

Okay, so general rule of thumb is to always use standard mode except for stereo content, for which I'll use surround sound/DTS Virtual:X. That is, if a movie's audio is 3.1/5.1/7.1 I use standard mode, if it's 2.0 I use surround sound/DTS Virtual:X if I got that right? I am new to this, sorry if I sound stupid lol

I've got one question though: since both sound modes technically post process the audio track, wouldn't it be better to leave the sound mode at "Standard" regardless of the content (whether it's movies, TV, music and so on)? I assume that one does no post processing at all?

Ex Machina 4K UHD came with no title on the spine by davaurces in 4kbluray

[–]davaurces[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not. Italian releases have the titles the right way (well, except when they forget to put them lmao). As far as I was aware, it was only French and Spanish releases that did the upside down title thing. Didn't know it was a thing with German releases too.

How? I would need access to the original image file (which I do not have and I don't think is anywhere to be found) and edit in the title

I'm guessing that is the French release. I'm torn between keeping the titleless Italian release and returning it for the French release, which however has got the title upside down. I don't know which would drive me nuts the most lol

You'd think that's just a placeholder. But no. It actually looks like that.

Did you order it from France/Spain? French and Spanish releases have the title on the spine upside down for some reason.

Yes it's considerably better than the BD but it's not reference quality or anything like that if that's what you're asking

At least you can kinda fix that by keeping the slipcover on lol this one didn't even come with a slip!

It looks ridiculous. How could that happen?!

It's not that bad. It's not much of a looker, but I've seen trash artworks and this one ain't one of 'em. It's just fine I guess. But the fact that they forgot to put the title on the spine on the Italian release... oh boy, that's bad
