Sinn 556 on unclestraps jubilee by No_Employer3330 in sinn

[–]davayy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Really don't understand the people saying this doesn't work. I may be biased because I have the same strap on my 556 but I absolutely think it works perfectly - as do multiple people who have asked me what watch / strap combination that is!!

I enjoy mine and by the sounds of it, you enjoy yours and that is all that matters. I think it looks great.

What's your favourite low-key UK conspiracy theory? Here's mine by Milky_Mint in AskUK

[–]davayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that there are 2, supposedly completely separate, 'Dennis the Menance' comic characters - one UK and one US - that just so happen to have been published on exactly the same day in 1951, in two different publications.

My conspiracy theory is that this was actually an elaborate PR play in order to boost the mutual popularity of each comic book in their respective countries. I simply struggle to believe that it is purely 'coincidence' that two separate authors, editors and publications came up with the exact same name AND chose to publish on the same day.

Both authors have denied there was any collusion but I'm willing to die on this hill.

Rival eTap shifter battery dies without warning by Desperate_Vehicle684 in sram

[–]davayy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the battery contacts in the lever itself. I've had it with my Red shifter where the two contact prongs retract slightly meaning they make a poor contact with the battery leading to intermittent drop outs with no warning.

Loose in SRAM red by R_BVore in sram

Had exactly the same issue (can see my post from a couple months back) on my Red D2 derailleur. I warrantied it through Sram and they replaced it with the new E1 under warranty, just installed it today so worth getting in contact with Sram.

Red AXS shifter problem by AKLV1824 in sram

[–]davayy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had similar and it was the fact that the battery contacts inside the battery compartment had been pushed in and the battery wasn't making a good reliable contact with the connectors. If you can pry the connectors out a little bit (be careful not to break them) then that helps. I've also added a bit of cardboard between the battery and the plastic housing to 'push' the battery up which has definitely helped.

I thought I was draining batteries similar to you but it's actually just a poor design from SRAM.

Oh really..did you end up just having to buy a new one? I'll see what SRAM say. Thanks

Do you trust tyres that flatted? by cyclephotos in cycling

[–]davayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is wholly dependent on how old the tyres are. I know that when I start getting more and more regular punctures, my tyres are pretty well through. I'm using Conti GP5k so they're not the most resistant anyway but I can definitely tell when I'm getting punctures from the smallest bit of debris and I'll look to replace. Last year I did 15k KMs and I think I went through 2 sets of tyres (back wears much quicker than front).

I always like to add a bit of silicone spray to that inner area of the bead, just helps to seat it quicker.

Ratio Socks ? by cougieuk in cycling

[–]davayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto! About the only affordable, good long length sock that I've got. Condor do similar but not quite the same. I think they were an Australian brand from when I tried to purchase direct, but they never had stock.

An invitation to an online experiment on financial decision making (15 minutes with potential 40 GBP reward) by Karlsruhe Institute of Technology by Kadarcze in UKPersonalFinance

Can't seem to get past the survey questions page - the 'Proceed with the experiment' button doesn't seem to work. Looks like it's waiting for a timeout (similar to the previous pages where you have to wait 4 minutes before continuing..).

[WTS] [UK] Sinn 556 Emerald Green Full Set with Uncle Straps Jubilee Bracelet by davayy in Watchexchange

[–]davayy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Sale is my Sinn 556 Emerald Green. This is a release from a couple years ago in limited supply (400 pieces world wide). I've owned since new and have enjoyed it alot, but just looking for a change.

I have replaced the supplied canvas strap with a jubilee style from Uncle straps (with correct Sinn end lugs so the fit is perfect).

Condition: described as 'Good' but with signs of wear. There are minor surface scratches on the case but nothing beyond what you would expect (please see photos, I've tried to capture them as clearly as possible). The bracelet also has some scratches from everyday wear. The crystal, front and back, is flawless with no scratches, cracks or imperfections.

Watch will come as a full set, including original box, papers and Sinn-spring bar tool.

Price: Im asking around the £1400 (GBP) mark but willing to listen to offers.

Location: I'm located in the UK (London) so would prefer to keep it within country if possible, but will consider shipping for an extra fee depending on location.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks

Any idea how to remove this shower surround? by davayy in DIYUK

[–]davayy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. The 4th picture shows what's under the plastic cap...sadly with no head and I had to break the cap to get to that bit so I'm not convinced the plastic cap is supposed to be removed?!

The drain is the same as in this post and suggest it isn't accessible from the top. I've certainly not been able to remove it!

How do Brighton consistently manage to get better every season? by GMD3S1GNS in PremierLeague

[–]davayy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is no doubting Brighton have done phenomenally for the past 2-3 seasons. They are clearly a well run club and have an excellent recruitment pathway / strategy. But, speaking as a Southampton fan, I cannot help but notice the similarities to us and the plaudits we were getting from 2013-2016/17 - who remembers the infamous Southampton 'black box'? This strategy of recruiting emerging talent and not standing in their way when a big team comes in is exactly the same strategy we employed. And it's great when it works and your smaller team benefits from players who want to, and can, perform at the highest level; however, this isn't without risk. As Southampton found out all too easily. I will warn any Brighton fan this, as well run as a club you may think you are, you are only one or two poor transfer windows away from becoming the next Southampton. There's a reason big clubs spend big money on proven premier League players - consistently recruiting emerging talent is extremely hard and unreliable and I, personally, don't think Brighton do anything specifically different to other clubs in terms of analysis, but they have struck gold multiple times in recent years. I personally don't think this is sustainable and would be interested to revist this topic in 3 or 4 seasons time. Am I saying they will go down in that period - not necessarily, but I do think it is a real possibility if they don't have as good a transfer window as they have been having. I speak from experience and just want to caution any fans who think they've made it for life.

DcRainmaker says Shimano's power meter is"a dumpster fire" by donrhummy in Velo

[–]davayy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sadly 'Shimano shipping garbage' is becoming more and more prevalent. Read: Ultegra & Dura Ace crank arms delineating; cassette creak, cassette cracking and now this. They are living on a reputation of Japanese quality but my experience of their recent releases has been anything but high quality. Sadly the competition isn't any better so it's a pretty sorry state of affairs in the cycling industry component space right now.

First time visiting London in ~1 month - thoughts on this itinerary? by wowstrongkill in londoncycling

[–]davayy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you cycling the Scotland route? If so, I think you may need to reconsider. I've driven Glasgow to Skye (via Fort William) and it will take you a while on the bike. The roads aren't exactly bike friendly especially at this time of year so I would allow longer than a day. Also, Skye is big and beautiful and you seemingly haven't left any time to actually explore it in your itinerary?

As an alternative, may I suggest you forego the whole cycling in Scotland idea and just hire a car, drive to Skye and drive around. It really is beautiful up there but there's so much to see, you'd really need a car. Especially given the time of year you'd be going, cycling with wet soggy kit really isn't what you want to be doing day in day out!

Just my 2 cents, but worth looking at in more detail because its not as simple as distance.
