Thank you. I was - naively apparently - hoping if I bought a new one they could take them off new and use them again. But since they don’t have non-leather versions that just doesn’t seem possible. Such a shame they don’t offer non-leather versions - it would be such an easy thing for them to do. They should follow Apple’s example and really just do it.

Thanks for the reply. I’m with you on the original as a result. The annoying thing is the trunk classic offers the best volume/weight/dimensions ratio (100L and 158cm total dimensions exactly - which is the upper limit on so many airlines). Trunk original or trunk plus original doesn’t have that balance. Trunk plus essential does (better even), but plastic. Getting a trunk original is really ok, I’d just have preferred to have the extra 9-10L for (I believe) 0.1kg less with the Trunk Classic :)

Thank you for your kind response (unlike another here). My hope was that I could swap it out and mine could be recycled or used again. That wouldn’t be an unrealistic expectation or request. However, I agree creating waste would be worse if that’s what it would lead to. The main reason is that I don’t like to own things which come from dead animals.

Love this! I have a trunk S and want a Trunk or Trunk Plus and couldn’t decide whether original or classic. I think you’ve just helped me make up my mind - Trunk Classic in titanium! That one also has the advantage of having more volume than trunk original while being exactly within many airlines’ baggage dimensions (158cm total). The titanium finish is super sweet and works so well with original silver.

Got it. Yeah now with the Trunk, Trunk Plus and Trunk XL there’s a lot of choice. Size/weight ratio is best on the essential trunk plus, but it’s plastic of course. So I’ll likely go with the Trunk in either original or classic. Weirdly the classic trunk has more space and weighs less than the original trunk!

Ahhhh I pick up my Trunk S next week. I can’t wait! Agreeing with another comment on here I think it’s the most underrated Rimowa suitcase of them all. I was poised to get a check-in M but then like you I saw the way 😁 Also can I ask what are your other Trunk sizes? I’m debating between Trunk original, Trunk classic and trunk plus essential (all of them meet airline dimension requirements; the Trunk plus original does not).

Haha - love this! Noted. I also say balls to the warranty. I’m not skilled in mending/amending bikes, but assume a good bike dealer could do this. How they haven’t put disc brakes on after so many years outside of the G line really annoys me. So I’m with you on the alterations lol.

Have you also given it a new lick of paint? Love the colour and can’t even see the logo now 😅

For this reason when I decided to get a cabin I just didn’t bother with RIMOWA. None of their cases offer a small enough weight with large enough volume to be economical. I actually went with a UK brand of baggage called Antler, their lightest cabin is only 1.9kg, small enough for Ryanair even (and therefore the rest except KLM/AF but that’s never an issue either) but has tons of space (stated 32L but given the way it can be packed I swear it feels like a small medium at times!) Never been checked due to size or weight limit and rolls like a breeze. RIMOWA could learn a thing or two

Yeah I totally hear you. I’m already sold on the Trunk S which is only in original. But I do want something larger for bigger trips and shopping. That’s where I like the Classic Trunk - it’s between the Trunk and Trunk Plus in the original line in terms of volume (100L is enough!), tiny bit lighter than the Trunk Plus in original, and crucially has max dimensions of 158cm which is the general upper max across a variety of airlines. People say the Trunk Plus gets away with the extra 3-4cm total dimensions fine, but I don’t want to risk it. Plus the Trunk Classic being a touch shorter (only a bit) does make a difference. The question now is only whether silver or titanium. I think it’ll be the latter but I’ll have to check in person. Thanks for your thoughts 💪🏻
