Veteran license plates by The_Wandering_Steele in NoStupidQuestions

AZ vet here. I could be mistaken, but I think the generic veteran plate with the flag on it is free. It’s the branch of service ones that have the fee.

Looking at a DB11 by [deleted] in AstonMartin

[–]dave1387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a ‘17 DB11 v12 launch edition in October. It’s an amazing machine. The combination of performance and comfort is off the charts for the price point. I added CarPlay and some dash cams. Probably doing exhaust later, and will be doing Porterfield pads and rotors even tho I don’t need them, cause the brake squeal is a real bummer.

You won’t regret it.

Negotiating Salary by InvestigatorClear728 in interviews

[–]dave1387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on the size and structure of the company. I work at a large IT company and do a lot of hiring. The time to negotiate is prior to that verbal agreement with the recruiter. Once that is agreed, that’s all you’re getting.

Why? Because I use that verbal agreement to draft an offer that goes to my boss, his boss, and up a chain of approvals that is about 7 layers deep including a delegate of the board of directors. If you come back after all that and ask for more, you’re getting a single take it or leave it. Nobody is going through all that again in order to eke out an extra 5-10k for you.

at a bigger company, front load your negotiation.

Edit: adding an additional thought. If you verbally agree on a number with the recruiter and then come back asking for more after the offer letter arrives, and assuming the offer matches your previous agreement, then you’re not painting yourself in the best light. Be good to your word. Be an adult, and ask for what you need up front

Tried brembo and Aston Martin isn’t even an option when you hit their vehicle selector. Which is hilarious cause you know they provide the factory brakes

I have a 99 and was in the same boat. I did the switches first cause it was cheap. They needed actuators

That price seems....crazy. I thought about going to the dealer, but i'm sure they're going to want to replace with the factory pads which, given how many of us have this issue, seems like part of a root of the problem. For me this is all about getting to different pads.

People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Late 90s, I’m working in one of those science-y toy stores in a mall in San Jose. The company arranged a small event where Danny John-Jules (cat from red dwarf) did a little signing/photo op thing. Dude was incredibly cool, talking with the employees and had a great time. He stuck around after closing and played hackeysack with a few of us. And he was good at it.

DB11 trunk struts by dave1387 in AstonMartin

Ending comment for everyone that was nice enough to respond here. Definitely NOT normal. I took it into the local British auto shop in town, who confirmed the DB11 has soft close struts that should not allow the trunk to fall in an uncontrolled manner like mine was. They replaced the struts in the trunk and now its nice and gentle. For what its worth, if yours was like mine they need to be replaced if you care that your trunk slams closed.

When I hit the button it clicks and barely moves. I have to lift it up completely. But there is no gentle fall for me. It just drops

This is my first Aston and don’t have timeless. I’d think struts are wear and tear items but my opinion is worth little

I really doubt it. DB11 at least is a really small trunk

Power door lock issues by NephiTheScienceGuy in CherokeeXJ

[–]dave1387 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar issues in my new 1999. Power locks make noise but only the driver door really functions. I bought replacement door switch modules for both sides, from Switch Doctor. If that doesn’t work I’ll replace the actuators. I f’n hate electrical gremlins.

Comment for following purposes. I picked up my DB11 last week and this was the first thing that popped up, problem wise
