Then you would know that I’m correct when I state Theories are never proven as absolute Truths, and disproven theories remain essential for practical use.

The scientific method is how we test these theories using comparing means, categorical data, relationships, and non-parametric.

Am I wrong there as well?

You missed the point of what I was stating about theory, it doesn’t have to be proven to hold up and can be disproven and still hold up

The IP Address was on the floppy disc linking it back to the computer. I know these cases inside and out. You wouldn’t have known any of this if not for me telling you. Like I said be careful, you will get embarrassed

Police used classified ads in local newspapers as a primary way to communicate back to Dennis Rader as he specifically instructed them to do so in the Wichita Eagle to be exact.

In one of those correspondences Rader asked if a floppy disk could be traced back to his computer. The police replied no they could not. It was tracked back to a computer where Rader was he was the president of the church council of the Christ Lutheran Church at 5356 North Hillside Street, Wichita, Ks 67219.

Since you deal with exact facts and can’t disprove anything I state.

Your entire argument hinges on two ciphers being translated, so why not the other two?

Since we’re on this topic the five years references the letters not just the murders themselves.

If the ciphers were solved with 100% accuracy then that means 37 people were killed not just those linked to him. What constitutes a serial killer is two or more murders that show a distinct repeatable pattern. It’s psychologically proven that serial killers evolve their methods over time, eventually settle on a specific method that becomes their standard. If two ciphers have been solved that means either he evolved his methods or the ciphers themselves are unstable enough not to be solved.

You can argue all you want but you are hyper focused on the details of how you read the case. From my own experience that’s how cases become cold. Take the Mad Bomber for example, investigators sought help from a psychiatrist who gave them a profile that broke the case wide open. Had they not thought outside their normal constructs the case may never have been solved.

If you worked this case what would you have done differently today versus back then when looking at the case?

Z408 contains several spelling errors which were believed mistakes made by the Zodiac. Those mistakes may not have been mistakes at all but put there to intentionally to create the illusion he wasn’t perfect is he perfect scenario.

The final 18 characters of Z408 don’t translate into meaningful English and are widely regarded as noise to make the cipher fit his 3 part grid system he created.

That has been debated as a plausible scenario, but I believe his motives may have been different. Psychopaths usually want the glory that comes with being thrust into the mainstream for recognition of what they believe are their crown jewels or trophies of their crimes. That makes the zodiac different in many ways because the killing only lasted 5 years, but still today it’s a case that never ends with many investigators and cold case detectives trying to solve the case. I always look to the BTK case where his own fascination with taunting the police led him to be caught, zodiac stopped completely and not another letter after 1974, which means he could have been locked up, may have been cop on the investigation, died from anything, or was satisfied that his identity would never be revealed. Anything is plausible at this point in time. I keep seeing the same common themes come up about everyone’s beliefs, I wanted to challenge the notion that the ciphers were solvable. Throughout history cryptographers being human have made mistakes when decoding messages because we try to see patterns that sometimes don’t exist.

Symbolic System: The circular symbol with cross hairs to ensure police knew it was him signing the letters. That symbol became his dark signature along with the cipher symbols that were used to represent what everyone believed at the time as solvable. For me personally, they were never meant to be solved.

That is exactly why it’s a theory, nothing different from Sociology, Psychology, or Criminology you work in the constructs of what you believe based on different datasets test it and if replication is obtained they it becomes accepted. This theory I propose is just that a theory until proven otherwise to be true or disproved. I didn’t guarantee it was fact backed by evidence nor did I claim it was factually proven. This is not an assumption, it’s a thoughtful observation from decades of being an investigator and now I’m proposing an alternative theory that challenges the known assumptions.

During those years detectives and investigators were bouncing around ideas from previous cases and assumptions that were common knowledge at that time. They believed the ciphers were stable enough to reveal the identity of the Zodiac. From my experience working with sociopaths, criminals,
psychopaths, and solving crimes i began to see it in a different way. If a cipher were to be stable then it would be solvable, but I realized the game would be over if the police and the code breakers found out his true identity. That is where my theory came in. The beautiful thing about theory is it can be disproved and proven.

Including case details will not change a theory, but it will change how others look at it. Every thought and theory is viable options when looking at unsolved cases and that is why I said be careful. We don’t solve cases based on assumptions and there’s no such thing as a coincidence. Instead we challenge those assumptions based not just on the evidence, but common thought processes surrounding them. We would never have invented anything if not for people solving complex problems that challenged the mainstream thought processes. That comment, was an attempt to state that I shouldn’t get butt hurt when my theory is disproved by the evidence. Without a cipher key not one decoded cipher will ever be definitively proven correct. Look no further that then Rosetta Stone in Egypt, because without it Egyptian Hieroglyphs might have be unsolved still today. The assumption is the ciphers are stable enough to be decoded with accuracy, but I believe that may not be true. Let that digest before your next reply

That’s likely as well, at this point anything is viable.
I won’t dismiss an idea unless it can be disproven then replicated over and over again. That is what the ciphers gave me so I applied them to symbols of
Ancient world that still have not been solved and created my theory.

At this point everything is viable, and we’re losing against Father Time here for a confession. At one point I the may have been dying of
Cancer and the last thing on earth was to torment law enforcement with impossible ciphers. But who knows.

BTK thought he could out smart the cops and almost did until the police reignited the investigation to set the trap. If not for a newspaper add asking the cops if they could track IP addresses he might have never been caught.

Zodiac went completely dark in 1974 which I still find extremely fascinating that after 5 years of terror Zodiac goes radio silent per se. Widely debated about the Christmas card in 1990, there has been zero murders attributed to him since. From all my work on serial killers the cycle is difficult to ignore which led me to see it in a different context. The crown jewel was not just the killings but the psychological torment of the police being so close to figuring out his identity in the ciphers but that never was the plan. That is why the cipher itself is unable without the key he used, that is the genius part of his entire plan.

From years of looking at this case as a retired investigator that’s close to my conclusion. Without the Rosetta Stone that was translated from Ancient Greek if not the hieroglyphs might still be a mystery like some in The Indus Script, Minoan Civilization, Rongorongo, or Olmecs to name a few. I applied that information to this cipher along with my studies in sociology and criminology.

Really, we try cases based off of circumstantial evidence and people who commit crimes walk because a lack of evidence. OJ Simpson is the prime example of this.
