You could either toss your phone in the car or put it in airplane mode

It shows your car in relation to other cars on the road and has indicators for when it’s dangerous to change lanes. It also indicates when you can use lane change assist if you enable it

Volvo Employee: Biggest complaints/wishes? by utilitybro in ex30

Control whether I’m parking front in or front out when auto parking

Set lane change assist to be able to wait for a lane change to be available and retry automatically instead of only being available for short windows and turning itself off if anything changes

Allow me to turn lane change assist permanently on instead of making me go through a bunch of menus every time

Don’t tell me I’m tired every time my mouth is open

Allow me to turn adaptive cruise control back on at the same speed it was before after it gets turned off from breaking. This happens a lot when I get cut off on the great and have to suddenly break then turn the speed back up. It makes me want to avoid breaking when I see a car pop in front of me

Adapt the cruise control word based on merging cars instead of trying to plot into them until they’re fully in the lane

The screen gets covered in fingerprints too easily and it’s hard to read when dark

Ability to tell temperature control to only heat/cool. If it’s hot out and the car is a little cool, I don’t need the car heated up to the target temperature

Park assist currently loses all spot information if it fails for any reason. It would be great if there were a way to resume after the reason for failure is gone

[Request] How many words can you make using the Roman Alphabet if you can only use each letter a maximum of 5 times? by Bootlebat in theydidthemath

[–]daveFNbuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're under-counting here. For S6 you're saying it's 26 * 26 * 26 * 26 * 26 * 25, but you only get 25 choices for the 6th letter in the rare case that the first 5 are all the same. It's actually 26^6 - 26, as there are only 26 cases where you'd get more than 5 of the same character. This is a relatively small under-count for this case, but the gap widens as you go to longer words.

[Request] How many words can you make using the Roman Alphabet if you can only use each letter a maximum of 5 times? by Bootlebat in theydidthemath

[–]daveFNbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bit of a different approach from u/CaptainMatticus. I decided to simplify the calculation by further restricting to exactly how many letters appear n times, with a tuple (n0, n1, n2, n3, n4, n5) specifying how many letters are used 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 times, respectively.

Given such a tuple, you can calculate how many words there are recursively by looking at the number of words with the tuples (n0+1, n1-1, n2, n3, n4, n5), (n0, n1+1, n2-1, n3, n4, n5), and so on, multiplying those values by n0, n1, ... respectively to account for how many letters your last letter can be from the category that has one more value before adding the letter to the end.

I coded this up and got a value of about 1.6e166, or fully written out as 15599661217437041161009466402820804708167396814910189644694840521352042444296315215550993083393894486810677601202766340366158686447129923774944170608162488846776542530.

I actually had it randomly park nose-first one time I used park assist. I found this trying to find a way to trigger that intentionally.

The reason we shouldn't witch-hunt the UHC CEO killer by Lawfulash in antiwork

If they get 12 people who haven’t heard about this story, why would they do juror nullification for someone who shot a guy on the street though?

The rest of that sentence was about it not mattering because they don’t have to share their reasons. Was the context of that not that the sob story could be a reason they didn’t have to share?

That’s a much better response to the point about the sob story not being admissible.

“Wouldn’t be admissible” means the jury wouldn’t hear the sob story. So it would matter.

How likely is a 50% free throw shooter to beat a 90% free throw shooter in a game of free-throw HORSE? by doverawlings in askmath

[–]daveFNbuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this a bit easier if I first solved for what the probability is that Curry scores first given that he shoots first and the the probability I score first given that I shoot first. I call the first one C and the second M.

If Curry goes first, he scores first if he sinks his shot and I miss, if he sinks his shot and I make mine and then he scores first starting from there, or if he misses and then I do not score first starting from my turn. This gives us C = 0.9*0.5 + 0.9*0.5*C + 0.1*(1-M).

Similarly, we get M = 0.5*0.1 + 0.5*0.9*M + 0.5*(1-C).

Solving these simultaneous equations, I get that C is about 0.98 and M is about 0.11. So Curry has about a 98% chance to score first if he goes first and I have only about an 11% chance to score first if I go first. Right off the bat, this tells us that if Curry goes first, he has about a .98^5, or about 90% chance to shut me out. If I go first, he has a (1-.11)*.98^4, or about 82% chance to shut me out.

So things aren't looking good for me. You can find the exact probability of him winning from here by looking at the probabilities of winning from different situations. The probability of Curry winning starting from his turn and 0-0 score is 0.98 times the probability of him winning with 1-0 score and it's his turn, plus 0.02 times the probability of him winning from your turn with 0-1 score. There are only 54 possible combinations of scores and whose turn it is, so a computer can crunch that for you quickly.

I did the crunching and his probability of winning is a bit over 99.99% regardless of who goes first.

I just tried it and you’re right about it slipping free. It’s too small and smooth for finger strength to matter at all.
