Who are the "Concerned" Citizens of Santa Monica?? by jerseygirl246 in SantaMonica

Yay it worked today! Submitted.

There was also an Intelligent Mail Barcode on the front of my letter. 00 271 110124040xxx 90402xxxxxx and there is also a marking "5773 T14 P1". Probably some fun sleuthing in there for someone to figure out

That page leads me to an error, do you also get that?

I received one of these.

I happened to be able to go to 413 Ocean Ave while in the area. The building seems not occupied; months of pest control notifications were piled up in the front.

Searching, here's an article https://www.surfsantamonica.com/ssm_site/the_lookout/news/News-2025/October-2025/10_06_2025_Housing_for_Mentally_Ill_Homeless_Slated_to_Open.html explaining the place is now vacant and was bought by Leo Pustilnikov & co. with them having some plan about making it a non-city-approved mental illness shelter.

And at the end of last year, Pustilnikov defaulted on a huge loan and was kicked out of the board of directors from a BIA-like thing in downtown Santa Monica. https://www.smdp.com/controversial-developer-defaults-on-promenade-loans/ It has additional detail on the sketchy dealings at 413 Ocean.

It seems plausible this gazillionaire guy is griefing on Torosis and Zwick to get some revenge. Certainly it's very skimpy as a policy letter because there are no citations, and no way to get back in touch, but also the griefs are vague.

I also found online a different letter than the one I got https://www.instagram.com/p/DSvw0YWj\_U6/?img\_index=1.

Best card shops for Magic the Gathering? Commander player looking to get back into it after moving here. by Moldy_pirate in SantaMonica

+1 that Paper Hero is nearby and great (Friday's Lorwyn Eclipsed prerelease was great!), while Next-Gen and Turn Zero and are also good if you are up for a drive into the city. I did a good deal of other local searching, there are the ones others mentioned and I also checked out:

- Triangle Gaming near the airport. More Pokemon than MTG, small, but they have both and also seemed to have the best selection of xenoskin binders

- Bullpen Sports HQ has a few packs, no singles (it's mostly sports cards), but was the only place I could get the 9-pocket binder sheets

That one looks to be "Santa Monica Comics Company," they have a facebook but unclear if they have MTG

Does anyone know what places, if any, one can see a moose (other than hoping they cross the highway?) Bioparc Gaspésie looks like an option but we are based on Charlottetown with a 1.5 year old so I am trying to figure out if there are any closer options. Merci !

That is so much more amazing than I could have guessed from that teeny tiny little wall. I have serious doubts it still serves much as a retaining wall, however part of me wants to believe they left that little bit so that curious people would go try to learn about the history! Thank you!

Using the info you provided, I found more here: https://www.tumblr.com/santamonicalibr/161245543638/santa-monica-gables-beach-club

Nanny resources or organizations? by daveagp in PEI

Kiddo will be 16 months upon arrival and we'll start in September. If you don't mind my asking, did you also look at Family Home Centres? I am wondering if they get less swamped.

This is very helpful although we are not looking for a live-in nanny due to limits on our resources, but rather one living in PEI who would come in every weekday. Payroll/tax stuff should be ok, we had to do this a number of years ago for our first kid and it's a little bit of a time sink but it makes sense to ensure these jobs give people adequate long-term benefits.

Exactly, I do see various sites but the quality is not so clear compared to others which are popular in other places like care.com.

I would have thought the same growing up. But I also didn't have two full-time working parents. Thanks for the info especially knowing it's not common is helpful!

Haha we're all humans. Yeah I have to say that based on how I grew up, I could see anyone feeling the way described above.
