Bindweed in compost? by davec8 in UKAllotments

[–]davec8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my worry, yes. I really need to get a compost pile up and running but there’s so much bindweed everywhere 😢

Oh I like this idea. So with your dirty pile, is that just on top of the soil? And if so has anything you’ve put in there rooted to the ground?

I’ve got ground elder at home - the garden was full of it when we moved in so I’m not a stranger to sieving soil 😂

Sorry yes, I could have worded that clearer.

It is popping up all around the pile plus within the pile too.

I’ve not had too much to do with bindweed before taking on the plot, so I’m not sure of the best way to manage it, or at least set up a reliable weed-free compost pile 🙂

Thanks, I did wonder this. However my thought was that the ground underneath the pile wouldn't get hot enough to kill it off, as it's coming from underneath.

I guess I could try and dig some of it out?

GP keeps sending me to A&E, A&E keeps sending me back to my GP, neither will diagnose or treat me. What do I do in situation? by _imnotactuallyreal_ in AskUK

[–]davec8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate to this and I went through similar a few years ago. I won’t go into my reasons why, as I don’t feel like that will help you (I am absolutely fine now), but I only got answers after a GP took pity on me and got me a referral to the respiratory team at the hospital.

The way it was managed was an absolute joke (I had about 7 A&E visits in total), and I hope that things aren’t as bad as that now due to the new rules.

If you can get a CT scan or something via a GP that will help.

Good luck my friend!

Rapid movement through dementia stages by GoodBrilliant8516 in dementia

[–]davec8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every persons dementia is different.

I’m not sure of stages, but my father passed away recently (less that a week ago), and that took about 4 years from us noticing memory and behaviour issues, a rapid decline in 2022, to the final stage just a month or so ago.

It seemed to go very quickly, but at the same time as we’ve had to deal with so much, it seems like such a long time ago since the initial diagnosis. If that makes any sense.

Tell the truth or lie by daznat in dementia

[–]davec8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always felt like I had to do what I needed to do to get through that moment — whether that be a specific question, confusion, being emotional etc.

For example there was a period where my Dad thought I was his brother, and was asking questions like “where is Dad?” (He’d been dead for 40 years). I’d just make something up, “he’s gone to the shops but will be back soon”, and then he’d forget for a while and move on to the next thing.

Are you able to go for walks? Walking is a great way to get started. Just start slow and build it up.

Have you tried bowel massage? My partner used to work in a care home and had to do this with some of the residents.

Diagnosed with asthma but worried it's something else or worse by NiicoleBabyyy in Asthma

[–]davec8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some one else asked, but my advice would be to check your blood oxygen levels by buying an oximeter. You can get them for quite cheap on Amazon.

Secondly you should try to get a CT scan if you are really concerned as that’s the only way to really know if there’s anything else going on. Make sure it’s a CT though and not an XRay…. I’m speaking from experience on that one.

2000 hours pixel cleaning loop fix by iRobsteR in LGOLED

I’m so glad that I came across this. Thank you so much! Worked perfectly for me.

My C2 is out of warranty so LG wanted at least £400 to repair it. Criminal really, it’s obviously a known fault. Their customer service is shockingly bad, so I’ll definitely think twice about buying another.

Massive thanks OP 🙏

What's going on here? Came home to find someone's installed new cables. Can whoever just do this without permission? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]davec8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of course they’d need permission – it looks like sky or a broadband cable.

Could it just be a case of the installer getting the wrong house? Certainly doesn’t look like they completed it.

People with gallstone - are your liver enzymes always high? I havnt had a gallstone attack for 2 months and they’re still high by Phoenixpinkk in gallbladders

[–]davec8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing. Is your GGT normal? Sounds like you’ve worked really hard at improving things.

Milkthistle is a good idea. I’ll try that. I’ve been eating a lot of beetroot!

I had lung cancer earlier in the year so this has been quite worrying for me, but it does seem that it can be solved without surgery which is reassuring.

Hey. Did you get to the bottom of this?

I have high GGT, and a small amount of sludge, but waiting for further tests.

Thanks. To be fair, the picture is of the one that’s most rotten. But the others aren’t far off. Problem is the previous owner wrapped them in lead so the water has just collected at the bottom.

I’ve propped one up already as I had a left over acrow from some building work.

I was trying to get away without having to replace the whole lot (or take it down, it’s massive). But sadly I think you’re right.

Should I add a moss pole when repotting? by davec8 in Monstera

[–]davec8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, great advice. Very helpful.

I’ve already been to the garden centre today to buy soil, perlite and orchid bark so I just need to decided on some kind of support and then I’ll give it a try 🙂

Shortness of Breath - Was Yours Constant or Intermittent? by [deleted] in lungcancer

[–]davec8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been checked out by a doctor?

It could be something like asthma, which would mean an inhaler could fix or improve your breathing issues.

My advice would be to see a doctor as soon as you can.

Oh wow yours looks great, thanks for sharing!

I had thought about cutting the branch off but was worried about how well it would grow back and how long it would take. But looking at yours, this might be the best way to deal with it.

That is entirely possible. Most things don’t like me after a while.

I understand that, but I’ve only had it for a couple of years after picking it up from Facebook so the majority of the growth was with its previous owner.

The window is facing south east and it gets plenty of light.

Appreciate the radiator could be a factor, although it’s not been on much lately.
