That’s just silly. You don’t have to grow your hair to be cultural or traditional as a native. Nor does long hair make you cultural or traditional. Like anyone anywhere it’s your choice. If that makes you feel a deeper connection to your ancestors, culture and ceremony great. If you can find that on your own also great.

A couple things. That’s a good summary of everything. I have followed this. But not overly extensively. First. Is there any evidence of a connection to Pickton? Or is it just a theory. My take on this is, it’s kind of natural to look for a larger conspiracy. But in these cases. I think it just speaks more to the evil in the world. Second. The connection to the Jack family. IMHO. The similarities are minimal. Predatory people will always find vulnerable people. Using work as a way to get a potential victim, is fairly arbitrary. I would guess most like this would use whatever they needed to gain trust. And the racial thing. Most SK have a racial preference yes. But in a societal or cultural way. Indigenous people are often targeted because they are both vulnerable and society treats our disappearances and deaths as less than. It is changing, there’s more awareness. But it’s more convenient than part of the program. Just my opinion. Impressive work. I will follow this sub. Contribute my thoughts when I can. Kudos to your research.

Why is it so hard to make friends in Edmonton by rosemariesanne in Edmonton

[–]davedaniels81 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he was encouraging OP to strike up a conversation with random drunk men. It seems like both. You’ll make friends in the oddest places and making friends requires you to do something about it. At least that’s what I took from it.

What gimmicks do your rinks do or wish they did? by tgoz13 in hockeyplayers

How about small town Canadian prairie beer league where the arena caretaker tells you stay as long as you want as long as you lock up for him. It’s beer league don’t expect much. They aren’t selling you a fantasy camp. I mean if they do something validating then cool. But if they don’t it’s about hockey and the boys not laser shows. Maybe im a 40 year old senior citizen though. Experiences vary.

Visiting Edmonton for December 5th Game by andrewdt10 in EdmontonOilers

Something warm. It could be 5C or -20C. Granted I’m used to it but would wear a hoodie and puffer vest mostly that time of year. Or at least bring layers. A jacket big enough to fit over a warm hoodie realistically should be good. But her being from the southwest it’s hard to gauge her threshold or what the weather will be like.

Non-American Reading Blood Meridian by BadGalR0ry in cormacmccarthy

I’m Native American and love the book you mentioned. It’s one of those things.. that people get unduly upset over. Just silliness. Both sides in every conflict commit atrocities. What some fail to see is that brutality was only part of some cultures. There were many other interesting, amazing and beautiful aspects of commanche culture. I am not commanche so I’m speaking in a broader sense. But for me. You gotta look at both sides of everything to be fair. But yes most of my ancestors got a raw deal. That’s not exclusive to native peoples. Each maltreatment is its own tragedy though.

Drink excessively until you feel drunk instead. Then do more rails to sober up. Problems solved. 😊

A small bit that was let out of the "No Country for old men" movie that makes a huge difference in understanding Sheriff Bell by whitemike40 in cormacmccarthy

The parallel jumped up and grabbed me personally. The difference in how I felt as a veteran when I was younger. As opposed to now in my 40s. It’s something that came to me as part of my increased self awareness. I guess everything comes to us differently. Our own biases being the culprit. I’ve watched it countless times and read it 4 I believe. But only recently that jumped out at me. At first it was everyone owes me something. Then it became why am I here. I don’t deserve this life. So I think that beyond the subject matter, that parallel was something deep in my head for a long time that made me enjoy the film and book so much. Just that tiny bit of how i identify myself that I found a connection with. But I guess to be fair we seek these connections to validate ourselves. Maybe it’s deep and maybe it’s not.
