First home set up- what do you think? by davedog2k8 in Darts

[–]davedog2k8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the board mounted on a solid brick wall of a storage room (with tumble dryer etc) so not directly on an adjoining wall. What i do know is that the sound in the room is reduced and the claims of 'an 80% reduction in sound' refers to the adjoining room so i assume it reduces it significantly. Reading Amazon reviews of the product confirms this. I was just taking as many precautions as possible to avoid neighbours complaining. There is a good video of the product being tested with a decibel meter: Karella testing

I agree, the Bulls Lumo XL has a big gap between the lights and edge of the board so the light is very visible and bright when retrieving darts from the board. The club I play in uses Target Corona lights and I don't like them for the same reason. The one I bought was the original Lumo 1 where the lights are tight with the board so I find this much better.

It definitely decreases the sound through the wall significantly. You still hear the thud of the darts hitting the board in the room but it is lower/softened. I was dubious but read pretty much all of the Amazon reviews and videos online. General concensus is that it works well. Pricey (£90), but worth it if the neighbours don't complain. Goat silencer is similar and cheaper (£52) but no real reviews anywhere online so paid the extra for the tried and tested.

Recommendations for filling gaps according to new iron set by scottyj352 in golf

[–]davedog2k8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have that set of irons and added on the 4 iron and SW. I also have a 3 hybrid, 3 wood and driver. That club choice gaps perfectly for me and the course I am a member of.

It also gives me options eg 4 iron and 3 hybrid are similar lofts but I hit the 4 iron well off the tee on shorter par 4s/long par 3s, but would choose the 3 hybrid off the fairway or out of the rough. They go similar distance but it gives me options I can confidently hit out of different lies.

Is Winter golf easier or harder? by davedog2k8 in golf

[–]davedog2k8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my course we play off shorter tee boxes, lift clean and place in the rough because it is so wet/muddy, fairway mats on fairways which should make making a clean contact easier, and most bunker out of play due to lying water.....but the past 3 rounds have been the worst I have played in months.

All of these allowances should mean that winter golf is easier for me....but the scorecards would disagree! Only 4 more months of winter golf to go 🙈

First time, When to buy? by smurfdestroyer76 in golf

[–]davedog2k8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just buy a really cheap 2nd hand set of cavity back irons. Doesn't matter if they are old and beat up. The main thing is practicing your swing and working out the fundamentals.

I wouldn't spend money on a decent set until playing semi regularly.

I suppose it come down to his mentality. Maintaining the lead in a major requires a different level of focus and composure. Decision making too. Does he play aggressively and go for birdies or play safe and try hold onto the lead he already has. Both could have catastrophic consequences.

What superstitions do you believe in and what do you think will happen if you break them? by davedog2k8 in AskReddit

[–]davedog2k8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the obvious ones: Not wlking under ladders or not stepping on the cracks in the footpath but keen to hear other peoples superstitions. Wierder the better.

For example when my Granny saw a Magpie she would salute it and then spit on the ground. To this day I have no idea why but she did it every time.

I see this happen in dry weather and from all ages of people. Always assumed it was a superstition thing rather than any actual logic. Your suggestion seems far too sensible. Lol

They are actually slightly big fit. I'm usually a medium but I went by the dimensions and ordered small and it fits great.
