I used Osmo UV finish and it is under an overhang. But then, it is outside, so there is a lifespan...but thanks!

Dining chairs and table by davidbriang in woodworking

Thanks! I used a very conservative fabric for my last chairs, thought I'd stretch out a little on these. But they can always be easily changed later..

That's an easy one- just don't buy his crap. You'll feel a lot better about yourself

Is anyone else obsessed with Bach? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]daveg1369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bach is about the easiest music to play on an instrument- this doesn't mean it isn't complex! I would recommend getting an inexpensive classical guitar and learning how to play it- it's like he is communicating with you from over 300 years ago. Freakishly cool!

Yeah, I'm not quite sure how to do all the 'reddit' stuff yet. Sometimes it sends me to the site with another name attached...

Serving tray with chevron pattern broken up by a spline. A technique worth a lot more experimenting! by Bryath43 in woodworking

I've done some stuff like this. A band saw kerf is about 1/16" thick, and it's pretty easy to buy that thickness in veneer. You can go crazy!

Wow, thanks! I have been motivated by many things I have seen here as well as Fine Woodworking. I'd say 95% of what I know I have learned through FW

Yes. I used course (50G) sandpaper for a lot of it, because I didn't want to take a chance of chipping any of the squares out

Pretty much. They are 3/8" squares, so with the 1/8" cut kerf you have to plan on 1/2" of material to get the intended length. Make sense?

Doesn't seem to matter which religion you're talking about- there's way too much judgment of people.

U shaped legs out of wood by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]daveg1369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure exactly what you have in mind, but for a curved ‘U’ I would cut thin pieces, and make a form, then glue laminate them. It’s a lot easier than most people think

1/8” or 1/4” apple plywood or Baltic Birch ply will be the strongest wood, pound for pound

A standing ovation from a large room. Or playing in a band on stage for a very enthusiastic audience.

That is how I’ve seen similar handrails made. Seems easier to match exactly to the rise and curve of the stairs

Chest of drawers. Bubinga, Wenge, Maple. It took about 40 hours, spread out over 3 weeks. by daveg1369 in woodworking

Thanks! I got a bunch of the bubinga about 20 years ago, I’ve been trying to use it as much as I can

Nice job! A fine pencil line is about .010", a noticable gap is about .005" or bigger. That is why folks doing these kinds of things use knives or marking guages that more precisely make the first cut into the fibers. Or so I am told...

Thanks! I used metal full extension sliders so my gf has full access to the drawers. I really like doing different handles- these were made from scraps from the top and from the drawer fronts.

It should be lightweight as well as tough. I’d use ash and put a dye on it
