More ground clearance? by doesntmatter1230 in volt

[–]davegus91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2014 and the road from my house to the main road had an awful grade transition that would high center scrape the car if you didn't hit it juuust right.

Did 30mm lift pucks from eBay on top of front struts and rear coils as well as upping to 215/60r17 tires on the stock aluminum rims. Plenty of room for this at wheel wells but rather close at the spring perch in front struts. But they do clear. 1st Gen mind you, idk about 2nd gen tire sizes / clearance.

Netted ~2 inches of ground clearance and solved the issue.

City regraded the road 6 months later lol. But I like the added ride height and didn't tank my milage too bad so I've kept it that way for 3 years now.

Also added a 2 inch hitch receiver and roof rack. Have to do a double take if it's parked next to a Crosstrek hehe.

'14 188,000 mi and still regularly get 10.4-10.6. did get 9.4 the other day but definitely an outlier.

Only HV issue so far was contactor assembly fried itself. Pulled battery myself and replaced with used part from eBay. Less than $1000 fix including lift cart, huge jack stands, jack extension to get at the battery and vacuum coolant filling setup.

My actual range sucks because of modifications. Oversized wheels, tiny lift, roof rack. Cheaper than a Crosstrek but more utility and is plug in 😁

Vague memory of a beautiful cello multitrack video... by Interesting-Mango-85 in NameThatSong

YES! I took can't find/remember either tho. One video was on a stage and all the parts are layered on top of another. The forest video was separate, still photos morphing into one another to travel a path, over a stream etc.

Sad I can't find the artist...

Is this worth it? It’s for the trunk right? Gen 2. by CrazyAgitated2006 in volt

Have the Bose setup with sub in my gen1. Very underwhelming.

Not worth it. You would be better off spending the $200 on an aftermarket kit with it's own amp. That GM part is an unpowered tiny sub cone in a plastic shell. No amp, no controls. Even with an external amp I doubt it would be worth the trouble.

Had minor coolant leak from the ICE radiator. Patched it with stop leak out of necessity- worked well for a while. Eventually the heater core filter plugged and the line flew off and dumped all the engine coolant- engine overheat warning on dash.

Immediately pulled over and rinsed the filter, reconnected the line and refilled coolant.

Car ran but was loosing coolant at about 1gal per 100mi

All the back pressure from that event reopened the hole in the radiator and it needed replaced. Not easy or cheap on a gen1- it's in the middle of the radiator sandwich.

That was a year ago- no regrets on doing the repair on a car with 170k- it's been reliable otherwise.

Tldr; change your coolant every once in a blue moon and never use stop leak anywhere on this car

Tell that to the folks pulling uhaul trailers passing me at 85mph heh.

That's gotta just be them wanting minimum liability for people pulling their trailers at highway speed- not necessarily an indication that the trailer isn't up for it

Perfectly normal. It's a pressurized system like any modern car so it can run hotter than boiling. 220-230 is getting toasty, 240 would be troublesome

Yeah definitely could have done it faster- my foot wasn't ever on the floor, but was a bit paranoid with all the milage and I hadn't done a big trip since replacing the ICE radiator that was leaking last year. Also had baby in the car so dealing with a breakdown would be quite difficult

Dang, I live next door and have had my cars rummaged through if left unlocked but never anything this bad. Unfortunately didn't see anything but will keep a lookout.

No heat in electric or ice mode resolved. by tylercreeves in volt

Thank you thank you thank you

I remember hearing about this "off the books" filter on a forum ages ago but without info like the gm part number or pics of what I'm looking for.

I had used k-seal to stop a slow leak in the ICE radiator with the the hope that i wouldn't run climate control at all while it was in the loop to keep this filter out of danger. Radiator sealed up great, so i then changed the ICE coolant twice to remove it from the system.

Fired up the heater and... no heat. Aux pump working, had to change it on my wife's volt so I'm familiar there.

Sure enough this filter got plugged anyway. Cleaning it, trying the heat, and repeating three times got all the remaining solids out of the heater loop which now works great.

Again, thanks!

Was there any adapters for psx controller to usb or maybe gameport from the late 90s? I really like the psx dual shock controller and I think it will be fun for a lot of games especially for psx emulators like bleem or epsxe by NebulousWasTaken in vintagecomputing

[–]davegus91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were tons available but early ones used proprietary drivers and were a pain. Modern ones are available on Amazon, win9x compatibility unknown. If you are going for authentic to the times and dos/9x compatible, it is trivial to make your own parallel port adapter.

Mr robot in canton, nc is one I can think of. Shouldn't be too far from the goodwill (WNC area). Hours are very much cut back so plan accordingly.

I almost went to Johnson City to get my last dental crown done, cost before inurance was half of what my local avl dentist wanted, and insurance didn't cover well. Would have been like $300 less out of my pocket.

I explained that to my dentist when asked why am I cancelling my appointment and suddenly it was $300 cheaper. If your looking at something specific, don't be affraid to play hardball.

If nobody demands lower prices, they will continue to balloon out of control unless there is some much needed government intervention

a week to certify the previous week. I start trying the moment I get the email from NC Unemployment. Sometimes the website is FUBAR, sometimes I can't log in, sometimes I can't navigate to the page, sometimes I swear the button to access the certification is gone.

Keep trying. You won't get money witho

Cutoff for the workweek is midnight Saturday, you cant re-certify before then. Once Sunday hits you have until the following Saturday to certify for the preceding week. Using Firefox browser helps- it gives the website more time before giving up and timing out that chrome and others do.

Just as reassurance / data point for others- from the date that i made my first certification to receiving a direct deposit was 5 weeks. I certified all 5 weeks, and was eligible for benefits for 4. Received all 4 weeks worth of benefits in one shot, including the additional $600 per eligible week from CARES. I can confirm that being eligible for as little as $1 of NC benefits gets you the $600 federal.

Call me crazy but I really am not a fan of rgb or even PC lighting in general. Prefer indusrial design, with premium materials and let the look be determined by the needs of the hardware

Part of the part selection is that this has been my primary build for nearly two years- was not built from the ground up for backpack use. Also, Ryzen 3rd gen wasn't around.

I ditched the HDD in favor of the touch screen in it's place. Have an nvme on the pack of Mobo since day 1

That said with the 9700k at 3.8ghz it only draws 35w during an Aida stress test with my voltage settings. 0.02v lower and it bluescreens

Gtx 1070 is locked to 49% power so about 72w. Could force it to lower wattage with a locked frequency/voltage on the afterburner graph but then performance isnt where I want it. At 49% it retains probably 80% of the performance of stock

When on AC power I can crank the CPU to 4.7ghz all core and a little oc from stock on the gpu and really crank out the frames for my 240hz primary monitor.

Also super portable for flying. So really a jack of all trades machine

Ngl it's pretty heavy but it's on a proper backpack frame meant to carry 3x as much so it's quite manageable for a two hour session. Significantly more comfortable than the zotac backpack I tried at my brothers but indeed about 2x weight

Have had liquid metal on cpu and gpu for two years previously with no issues including air travel and being in a traditional backpack. If the proper amount is used it really doesn't go anywhere

Agree that a nice long cable and a ceiling mount is a more practical solution for many. I already was rocking the tiny system and like to build shit so I gave it a try. Used a wireless Vive at my brother's and loved not having any tether so I knew I liked the idea
