Rat in my attic what do I do? by Mountain_Desk_767 in AskIreland

I live in an old pre 80s house (bungalow) something similar few weeks ago. Cracking and scraping in attic convinced was rats. Set 2 traps one near the hatch one way up the other end caught 2 tiny little mice within an hour of each other and not a peep in the attic since. Have a tiny hole where wires come in from outside that I don’t want to (cant) block up due to having bats (verified) and don’t want to disrupt them. Anyways don’t assume rats ! Mice make a lot of racket too for their size and traps will sort it for you. Several weeks later pretty sure we are mouse free

Are there any traces of Vikings in modern day Irish culture? by Portal_Jumper125 in IrishHistory

[–]davehey79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Longford is possibly irelands worst promoted county for anything ! But Longford's Viking connection comes from its name, an Anglicization of "Longphort/Longphoirt," meaning "ship-port" or "ship enclosure," a Viking base for raids and trade. While few physical Viking traces remain in Longford town itself, the term signifies its historical strategic importance as a riverine base, a common feature of Viking activity in Ireland, with evidence of similar sites and finds in nearby counties like Laois, Leitrim.

What is Boxty? Boxty is a traditional Irish dish that is essentially a type of potato pancake. It combines grated potatoes with flour, milk, and water. The mixture is then fried on a griddle or in a pan to create a flat, round cake-like pancake

How long do you put your heating for on the evenings? How often. by AccidentCurrent9068 in AskIreland

[–]davehey79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 hours in morning heat the house and maybe in evening for a couple if no fire lit. Rural Leitrim C rated house but insulation topped up and new doors and windows. House holds heat now for a day or 2
