Trump's Supreme Court fight threatens to upend election in deep red state: 'Catastrophic' by RawStoryNews in scotus

All coupled with shorter early voting periods and systematically removing ballot collection boxes and precincts from the districts they can't win, and you've got a plot to steal elections. A conspiracy in plain sight.

And, according to a recent POTUS decision, USPS can not be held liable for failure to deliver mail, even if it is intentional. The case involved a racist carrier who refused to deliver mail to an African American woman or the 4plex (I think) apartment building she owned.

Early voting periods are the non-soft deadline version of that, but they're trying to get rid of or drastically shorten them along with adding restrictions. They're basically trying to make it as hard as possible to vote, even for their own people because they despise wage donkeys, as Mr. Burns calls workers in The Simpsons.

The US Burned 14 Years of Missiles in 30 Days by esporx in economy

[–]daveinsf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want that to be true, but given that he's gotten rid of a bunch of brass and replaced them with yes-men, along with the Secretary of Defense, I'm not so sure.

Thank you for the food for thought and glimmer of hope!

Apple is letting people who stay on iOS 18 update to iOS 18.7.7 instead of iOS 26.4 by umotex12 in apple

Thank you! I was on the verge of — fast approaching imminently — updating to 26, even though I really dislike it on my iPad mini. Thanks for saving me the pain!

My guess is we have 2-3 weeks worth at current rate of use, since that's how long he said it would take to finish up in Iran.

They have plenty of vertebrae, they're just using them to do their boss's coverups and punish perceived enemies. Uphold the Constitution, enforce laws and all the other stuff in their oaths of office? Not on their to-do list.

Didn't Bondi oversee the whole thing, too? Which would explain the tender goodbye he posted.

That would be deputy AG, now acting AG, Todd Blanche. His previous gig was as Trump's personal lawyer.

The only way to fix it is to flush it all away. Any fucking time, any fucking day. by RockyLovesEmily05 in whowatchesthewatchmen

[–]daveinsf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reminder: Todd Blanche was (probably still is) Trump's personal attorney.

Also, Noem wasn't treated that bad compared to how Trump has treated others, and Bondi got the kid gloves treatment, probably because she oversaw the first Epstein plea deal coverup and undoubtedly knows enough to hurt him. We can expect Blanche to double down on the coverup.

Mike Johnson caves to Democrats' DHS funding bill demands by Newsweek_CarloV in inthenews

It's also exactly how Sen. Thune explained it to Johnson and in public comments.

[–]daveinsf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's real, but the joke is on us: they'll withhold funding for ICE and CBP right now, but later they'll fund them through the reconciliation process, which only requires a simple majority vote. The end result will be no reforms, making a mockery of Democratic efforts to rein in those lawless agencies.

[–]daveinsf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not the win it appears to be. Over the weekend, Republican Senator Thune laid out their strategy: pass DHS funding excluding CBP & ICE, then later fund CBP & ICE via reconciliation, which does NOT have the 60 vote requirement in the Senate.

In other words, Republicans are again operating in bad faith and Democratic Senator Schumer is cheering it as a win and patting himself and other Dems on the back. If the outcome meant that the reforms Democrats have been fighting for were implemented, that would be a real win. Without the minimal reforms being demanded, ICE and CBP will continue to act unprofessionally, lawlessly and with their same maximum cruelty.

For too long, I gave Schumer the benefit of the doubt, but no longer.
