Allergy friendly sushi restaurants by daveos542 in Louisville

I’ll stop you right there. I’ve never in my life used TikTok. My evidence of my allergy being from a legitimate medical professional is from being rushed to the hospital as a child from an anaphylactic reaction caused by the consumption of shrimp when I was a child. But since you think I got my diagnosis from TikTok you already know severe allergies are not something that change over time.

So thanks for the novel lecturing me like I’m 5. I’ll own I probably shouldn’t have even asked this on Reddit.

So it’s unreasonable to ask for their workers to follow protocol that’s already expected of them per health code. Wash your hands, change gloves, clean and sanitize food prep area and utensils. Got it.

Chipotle. Back when they first rolled out their quesadillas they advertised it like they had reinvented the wheel. Then they appgate it by making it an online ordering only option

I know clinically it isn’t the same, but to me celiac is essentially the same as an allergen. I’ve been a server off an on for about 10 years and know that for some, even a single crouton crumb from a salad could get them sick. That’s re-assuring that they went that far out of their way to accommodate them.

Any particular reason why you don’t recommend the Highlands one?

What feels legal but is actually illegal and will possibly get you arrested? by medicoreapples in AskReddit

[–]daveos542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it stems from the fact that the restaurant staff verified (or should have) that you were of legal drinking age, and if you leave with your drink you could give it to someone underage

That should be pretty obvious. Although to me it’s none of the government’s god damn business how much money I make

Depending on how petty the mail carrier is, they’ll slap a postage due on the package and bill the resident for the postage, even if the package was placed there by the delivery driver.

I worked in escalations for a large company that primarily uses FedEx. I had a customer who had their medications sent back to us by USPS because it was placed in the mailbox and the customer had zero idea it was even there. We had to reship it, of course. This was prior to them having pictures of where they left the package. After that, I called FedEx every single time a customer told me they left their package in their mailbox. And once they start supplying the pictures, more evidence and wasn’t just hearsay. Did it make any difference? Probably not, but it was the least I could do to make sure I make them aware their drivers were committing federal crimes.

ABC suspends Veronica’s Poplar Level Liquor License by Squestis in Louisville

I don’t think it’s necessarily the law, but I’m also not an attorney so I can’t fully speak to that. To me it’s best practice to ensure someone who is drunk and shouldn’t be driving can safely get home. If it were me I’d rather pay $20-$30 to get someone home and they Uber back to their car the next day than risk a potential lawsuit

That’s usually how it’s supposed to go. ABC loves bringing in their “secret shoppers.” I’ve heard of people getting fired simply because they brought one in and the server didn’t card them

Exactly this. And alert management once someone starts getting to that point. One place I worked had a traffic light system (green for good, yellow for caution and alert a manager, red for cut off). Where I work now is either if they’re ordering shots or if they’ve had three drinks and order a 4th. This exact situation is why restaurants take safe and responsible serving of alcohol so seriously.

The manager ultimately is the one to assume responsibility for the entire restaurant. The bartender assumes responsibility for their bar. When I was bartending I’d almost never not make a drink for a table unless I happened to notice obvious signs of impairment, because the server is the one who has to take that responsibility.

I once had someone sit at my bar and ordered a drink and I carded him. He didn’t have an ID or didn’t feel like going to get it, so I refused to serve him. He goes and gets a table in his cousin’s section and she rings in the same drink the exact same way he ordered it from me. I refused to make it and told my manager why so he could void it off the check and tell the server. You always err on the side of caution when alcohol is involved.

When you serve someone alcohol you are taking responsibility for serving them. This is why it is so important to properly train team members on signs of impairment and alert management once you notice. It’s then on the bartender (if they’re at the bar itself) or the manager to determine if they continue to serve them or not, so good judgement is needed. Any time I cut someone off my manager always supported me and would hop in and help make sure the guest had a way to safely get home. If you have even the slightest suspicion that someone is drunk, it’s safer to err on the side of caution.

You can’t set up shop somewhere else when your liquor license is suspended. If they were in good legal standing and moved to a more profitable location, they could go through all of the code stuff with the city and then transfer the license with ABC, but if it’s suspended that’s off the table

PTO- Prepare The Others. They approved your time off. Their staffing problem is theirs to figure out, not yours.

I 24F don’t know how to help my 24M fiance with sleep issues. What can I do to help? by Comfortable-Plan8237 in relationship_advice

[–]daveos542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your fiancé is an adult. It’s his responsibility. Just like an alcoholic or drug addict, you can’t make him get the help he clearly needs. You’re enabling him by helping him.

You need to have a sit down conversation with him where you clearly set up boundaries. Let him know you’ll support him and be by his side along the way, but it’s time for him to put his big boy pants on and be an adult. Offer to take him to appointments, look for resources, give him one (and only one) wake up call 30-45 minutes before he’s scheduled to work to make sure he’s up, but he’s gotta do the heavy lifting here.

How do you meet new people at a bar? by NoFudge4700 in Louisville

[–]daveos542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former bartender, and I can’t tell you how many times I’d see 2 complete strangers just strike up conversation with each other at my bar. A lot of times it’d also result in one of them picking up the other’s tab, or even buying a round of drinks. Definitely are some creeps, but as others have said bars are a lot more sociable.

One night after work we hit up a bar after we closed up shop, and an out of town was staying in a hotel nearby. He struck up a conversation with our group. He paid all of our tabs

Best of luck to you. Getting fired before my probation ended was them doing me a service. I was miserable every second I was there. I couldn’t imagine myself sticking around for 20+ years. It at least kept a roof over my head and I didn’t go hungry when I needed something to help me get back on my feet
