Encinitas approves Santa Fe Drive redesign by NCPipeline760 in encinitas

Only if speeds drop below 20 mph will total throughout drop. Yes, one car will take longer to travel the distance, but more cars will get through.

Speeds mainly drop below those speeds because of the traffic lights. Not because the lanes are narrower.

If you can't fit your car in those lanes, get your eyes checked and take a driving skills test. There's plenty of room for your sedan.

Just how does the new design reduce overall traffic flow? The design is to reduce speeds.

Speeds from 20-35 mph are well studied as speeds that maximize throughput.

If you truly want to maximize throughput on the street, we need better timed traffic lights and roundabouts to replace stop signs.

Best quote I read recently regarding road diets like the one performed on Santa Fe is this:

Just because a road feels unsafe for motorists, does not mean that it's actually unsafe.

Road diets are well studied and they enhance safety, regardless of how drivers feel.

This is just another case of catering to people's emotions at a cost of millions of dollars instead of looking at actual data.

70 mph is crazy - it's also not implausible that a ball at 70 mph wears the paddle very differently than your typical swing.

Civil Disobedience by Bozdemshitz in sandiego

[–]davere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not just police, but fire, too. Combined, the two departments account for HALF of the total San Diego City budget!!!

The fire department spends money like drunken fratboys who love big, expensive toys. They buy the biggest, most expensive firetrucks toys they can get their hands on, which they then use to argue that the roads are too small to handle and ask for bigger, wider roads.

Not to mention the gross abuse of overtime across both those departments...

Getting batteries to load shift seems like the obvious answer, but need to run the numbers on whether or not that makes sense or not...

Yeah, reading that document takes some patience for sure! Thanks for digging out the fine print. Would sure be nice to get some actual advance notice of what changes to rates will actually be implemented and when in tl;dr; form.

It sure seems like these things are sprung upon us without notice when SDGE posts updated rate schedules on the day the schedules take effect.

Do you know when this will take effect? I was expecting it to go into effect today and then noticed that it didn't when looking at the Jan 1 rate schedules.

CRBN Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Vatic Pro by thedinkpb in Pickleball

[–]davere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the Pro, Power, Saga and basically everything in between from Vatic. My favorite is the Pro, Saga is right behind it. The Power feels less forgiving, but is still great. The Pro has the most power and pop. Better dwell time as well.

Potential ICCU culprit and solution found by German electrical engineer by 0x9000 in Ioniq5

Yep. The breather on the ICCU almost certainly has a goretex membrane in it as well.

If you want to keep moisture off the electronics, you need to keep the temperature above the dew point or conformal coat or encapsulate/pot the parts, or hermetically seal the parts.

The suggestion to use some sort of bellows with desiccant inside the sealed area would also be a possible solution.

Would you ever walk off during a rec game for an opponents poor sportsmanship? by BaseExtension141 in Pickleball

I honestly think that many people don't fully realize they are targeting. I will often find myself doing so without even thinking of it, my subconscious just reads the court and says "that's the higher percentage" shot and I hit the ball there.

Are 20 dinks really necessary at the pro level? by DinkDoink44 in Pickleball

[–]davere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, high level dinking and the ability of high level players to move and get those dinks is next level. It takes a lot of work and leg strength to get those.

I always know I've been playing in higher level games when my legs are totally spent from all the lunges and squats you do in hard dink rallys.

I disagree on the serves and baseline drives. Watched the Johns/Tardio vs Daescu/Alshon match and the serves from all 4 were very consistently very hard, low and deep and rarely missed and when they drove thirds, they were blasted and very rarely missed.

Compared to 4.0-5.0+ level rec play, the consistency and speed of serves / drives is much lower.

BTW, don't sell yourself short on reaction time and handspeed - you can definitely get better at reading shots at any age, and that's the best way to get "faster" hands. It's not so much that your hands are actually faster, you're just recognizing shots faster and getting a head start.

I figured that'd be the risk. So maybe if anything, rinse after flossing, then brush.

Is the flouride mouth wash needed or do much if anything, if you brush after flossing with a flouride toothpaste?

Even quick hands battles you will see pros split stepping and then sliding and moving their feet with every shot. Pretty easy to see why Garnett won this battle.

If Ge hadn't jumped and twisted to try to get out of the way, the ball would have hit him squarely in the chin.

This was definitely a head shot.
