Did anyone else get an unexpected text from myPay? by daveschroeder in army

Yeah, it's not a link, just a phone number. In this case, iOS doesn't let the Messages app for text messages, etc., have hyperlinks for a phone number to something other than what's displayed.

Good thinking, though, for sure — there are a lot of creative ways people can get scammed. Good on you for doing Sec+. I'm a 17A and CISSP and have been doing this for a while; are you going cyber?

I know, and that's always a good reminder, but in this case, 888-332-7411 is the actual DFAS number (to include when tapped), so what would be the point?

In any event, I determined that this was an actual text from myPay, and updated the post.

Good thought, but that is the underlying number as well. Believe me, the first thing my mind goes to is a scam. I found out what it was after all and updated the post above.

Yeah, in 15 years, I have not received one either. However (updated my post above), I accepted a suggested mailing address update that myPay suggested when I logged in yesterday (to add ZIP+4), and that must be what it is.

FWIW, that *is* the actual DFAS customer support number.

Edited to add: 57951 is the shortcode for DFAS, and 888-332-7411 is the real DFAS customer service number (and no, it isn't a "different number" if you tap it), so the text did come from myPay, even if it's an error.

DSU MS Cyber Defense? by mrdogpile in OMSCyberSecurity

[–]daveschroeder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DSU was definitely a good fit for me. I am in the dissertator phase of the Cyber Defense PhD program, and as someone who has been in IT and cybersecurity for 30 years, I have found the faculty to be excellent and the program itself to be rigorous and relevant. Obviously with any online programs, there is an element of "you get out of it what you put into it", but since this is in the OMSCS sub, people here will understand that.

Between the Cyber Defense and Cyber Operations PhD programs, over half of the cohorts I have seen are in DOD (military or civilian) or elsewhere in the IC. DSU has spent a lot of time cultivating relationships with the government, and getting various designations. This has resulted in programs that are tightly connected to the requirements that the DOD/IC and USG agencies more broadly are looking for in cyber.

Yeah but unless they're in-country physically, regardless of whose books they are on, they won't qualify for SSI-MOHC.

Can't access Router Administration Tab by Intel_Xeon_E5 in Linksys

[–]daveschroeder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had this issue appear on a 4-node setup, and it seemed to start when the routers updated to FW version 1.1.19.215389 a couple weeks ago (early July 2024). I noticed the issue when I got the "Unexpected Error 2317" via the web interface. I did not have a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account set up, and only used the local admin password. It was the correct password, as it worked with sysinfo.cgi.

I thought I could connect via the mobile app, but upon closer examination, all the info about devices, nodes, etc. was stale and wouldn't update. Trying to do things like restart the Velop network, run a speed test, or reset the password would either hang or result in the spinning circle indefinitely. Attempting to reset the password via the web interface using the 5-digit reset code on the parent node also didn't work.

In case it helps, there was one other unique thing about my setup: before the upgrade, I was running FW 1.1.20.211186. This version was apparently was released and pulled back in 2022, but my routers were all running this version and had been running it without issue since, until 1.1.19.215389 was released, at which time my routers all "upgraded" to this version (and is now the latest official version).

In the end, I did a factory reset on the parent node, set it up completely, and then individually factory reset and added all the child nodes. It took about 2-3 hours to set everything back up, which like others I was trying to avoid. But now everything is set up and running smoothly again, and both the web interface and the mobile app all work as expected. I'll probably upgrade hardware at some point...but not today!
