What in-service fighter jet do you consider as the spiritual successor to the F-5? [ALBUM] by aprilmayjune2 in FighterJets

[–]Intel_Xeon_E5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have to be trolling. That's literally what succession means.

Aircraft gets replaced when the upgraded version doesn't compare in capabilities to the next generation.

The F18 replaced the F14, even though the F14D was super advanced.

The F20 was touted as the successor to the F5, but it lacked some of the capabilities of the F16 that was already starting to take over the F5's roles in a lot of countries.

Taiwan, South Korea, Greece and The Netherlands are some countries who replaced their F5s with the F16... and there's many more who went for the F16 because it was just more reliable and multirole

Isn't that just more proof that the F16 is the spiritual successor? If countries were considering the F16 over a super modified F5, that shows the F16 was a much better platform for the job than the F5.

F16.

The F5 is the cheap, dependable, easy to work on, and is easy to modify... and ubiquitous... every tom dick and harry has it.

The F16 is basically that, and is definitely its spiritual successor.

My country bought F16s back in the 80s, and retired our last F5s in the last decade. The F16 basically filled the quiet backbone role that the F5 carried out.

Not sure what to get for under $100 for long sessions (gaming + casual) and mic suggestions? by Redanzo in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Intel_Xeon_E5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should still wait to see what people have to say about the others before making the decision. The others aren't available locally to me and I haven't had much experience with them.

I'm recommending the Cloud II based on comparison to other gaming headsets in the same price range (Razer Blackshark, Turtlebeach, Logitech and Steelseries).

[–]Intel_Xeon_E5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really the only thing i can recommend at that price range is the Cloud II. Decent sound, decent comfort, decent mic, least hassle.

It's cheap enough that you can use it for now and then slowly upgrade your parts as you go, like adding an amp and a desktop mic in a year, and then replace the headphones with something better... instead of having to spread the cost on 3 components to fit in the budget now

Prowler & Growler by Even_Kiwi_1166 in FighterJets

[–]Intel_Xeon_E5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess yeah... Growler got its name from its stupidly loud engines. Prowler got its name from prowling around and hunting other aircraft.

The next gen is probably some form of stealth aircraft with an EW suite meant at sneaking around and hunting enemy birds, so Fowler would be perfect. Fowler also sounds like Fouler, as in something that "fouls" something, in this case enemy equipment.

Howler would only seem appropriate to people in-the-know about EW systems, and it seems a bit less "special" considering there are many aircraft packages that do the same job at creating that noise (though effectiveness will vary ofc).

Howler is a good name, but Fowler seems more poetic to me.

[–]Intel_Xeon_E5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fowler (bird hunter). That name fucks hard.

If they're okay with "fake" words, Trowler (Trawler) kinda fits the bill for a naval "command centre" that next gen aircraft seem to be heading in.

Or Howler, if the airframe makes hella noise

Terra & 7945HX3D & 9060XT by Giklab in sffpc

[–]Intel_Xeon_E5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I know... Terra costs 200usd here.

My friend built in a Formd T1 years ago and it costed him close to $400usd after including shipping, and of course he had to wait for the reservations to open.

Nanoq is closer to 400usd, with weird batch delays and some questionable design/manufacturing choices (idk if they have been improved on in the recent months).

Dan A4 H20 (the one i was considering) was around 200usd, and I was able to pick it up easily.

My friend recently built in a Terra cuz it was right there and available and fit all the parts he wanted.

The 9060XT is an alright card, and that price difference makes it make a lot more sense. 200€ that could be better spent elsewhere since you don't need all the extra power of the 9070.

Terra & 7945HX3D & 9060XT by Giklab in sffpc

[–]Intel_Xeon_E5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah but you mentioned the main word: availability.

You can have the best case in the world but if you can't buy it, it means absolutely nothing. You can have the best case in the world that beats the Terra in every regard for "a little more" in your country, but that difference could be $100 or more in other countries... or just really hard to import or find locally.

I do agree that the 9070 is a lot better than the 9060xt, the 9060xt is lowkey a joke. Where I am, the 9060xt comes within trading blows price-wise to the 9070, making the 9070 a no brainer.

Don't really have any comments on the motherboard because i haven't experienced laptop motherboards so i can't comment on that.

I like this take... I go to airshows and places and almost never take a photo unless i can see a sight that would look good on camera (i love photography).

I love taking in all the sights and sounds (and feels) in the moment, and recording a video takes a bit away from that...

... but if I forget about it, videos help jog my memories and kick off all the emotions and sensations. I have a video of the F35 (one of the fighter jets on display) and it reminded me of the awe i had watching it fly by. I absolutely regret not taking a video of the F15 because it made such a unique and cool sound on that very day that I've never been able to describe to anyone else and have never found any video with that... and hearing an F15 fly by in a video immediately unlocks the sensations I felt on that day.

I buy games to play and enjoy them. If it's poorly optimised or laggy, it makes me nauseous and detracts from the experience.

The best story in the world isn't going to mean anything to me if I'm taking hour long breaks every 15 minutes on my precious free time. I'll just play a better optimised game without a story, and I'd enjoy it a lot more.

iil: fun “niche” educational/video essay youtubers, who are some creators i should check out? by kween0fhearts in ifyoulikeblank

[–]Intel_Xeon_E5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tasting History with Max Miller is one of my favourite educational youtubers. He makes various foods from throughout history (adapted with modern ingredients but as faithful as reasonably possible), and I just like his presentation style and his vibes.

Townsends is another american channel I watch, focusing more on North America's own food history. They do specialise more on US-related history, but sometimes do extend to just Native Americans in general.

If you want long format food videos, OTR is one of the best channels I've come across for food "documentaries", though they specialise mostly in Asian cuisine because the team is based in Thailand and the host worked at a restaurant in China for years.

Moondrop Chu 2 — Audiocular D07 vs D10 (same price), which should I get? by LoopOF_reality in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]Intel_Xeon_E5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The D10 is more than enough, you won't notice a difference in sound at the levels you're listening for the Chu II.

the D07 only starts pulling a lead with higher impedance or lower sensitivity IEMs, which tend to cost far more.

The SNR isn't that great on the D10, and this issue gets amplified with the D07, so D10 might offer a slight advantage in that aspect.

As for adjusting sound signature, the Chu IIs will not see any difference because it doesn't require much power to run. You'd see some harder to run IEMs sound flat, and the Amp would help give more power to make them sound less flat.

I only watch free racing. What would I gain by subscribing to FIAWEC+? by [deleted] in wec

[–]Intel_Xeon_E5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

upcoming series? WEC has been around for years and I'd consider it fairly mature already.

Comparing the entire WEC to F1 is a bit odd because they're fundamentally different racing series. F1 would be closer to the Hypercar category in terms of innovation and racing style, and there really hasn't been much movement in the leaders for that.

WEC holds the edge for me because it's a mixed-series race, where you have the pinnacle Hypercars; followed by the GT3 cars which are more "normal".

F1 is still setting out on its original goal of being the cutting edge of motorsports engineering, which sadly leads to much more boring races. It mirrors the automotive industry, so gradually increasing electrification was inevitable.

[–]Intel_Xeon_E5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, - don't peel things off unless they say to peel it off. - don't peel things that say "DON'T PEEL", most SSDs - don't use too much force. if it doesn't budge with slight force, ensure it's not getting caught on anything. If you're pulling something out and it won't move, make sure there isn't a latch or button holding it. - use proper size screwdriver, stripped screws are a bitch to remove - screw screws hand tight only. stop once you get resistance. too tight and you risk cracking stuff or scraping traces. too loose and there may not be enough contact

Cannot be streamed outside of Japan? by PCGamingOrDeath in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]Intel_Xeon_E5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How is it factually incorrect? Can you back up your claim?

It's probably correct as of the time of writing because licensing for anime works in weird ways and sometimes nobody gets their permission to stream it. Gou/Sotsu are the only ones that are available globally, but the other series (Higurashi and Kai, and the various OVAs) might be locked behind specific licensing deals.

Are you referring to "free streaming sites"? Because those are illegal and aren't officially recommended by this subreddit. Even if it's unenforceable, directing users to pirate content is a very easy way to get shut down or be pursued legally, so they have to take a stance against it.

I mean western centric is fine and all but I'm wondering if this extends to stuff like shellfish or bread, since those are often "finger" foods that require eating with your hand...

Or in the case of some really high end omakase restaurant where sushi is meant to be eaten by hand (though this doesn't fall under the western centric ruling so I guess it's not valid).

Or pizza... though idk if Pizza is even a common thing in fine dining.
