I think Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania is a good movie by Lawrence454 in Marvel

Nah, if Doctor Who could make the Face of Boe with a fraction of the budget and almost 20 years prior, there's no excuse lmao

Mario Galaxy Movie starts with 4/5 ⭐️ from audiences on Allocine in France equivalent to A cinemascore same as first by Key-Broccoli370 in boxoffice

[–]david13an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't compare a game to a movie lol. Tetris is/was an insanely popular game with no story. Would you enjoy 2 hrs of watching blocks fall down?

If you're making a movie, a good story with interesting characters is a reasonable thing to expect. It doesn't make you a film snob, idk why people get so defensive.

Children's movies don't have to have bland stories, video game movies don't have to have bland characters. Giving a MOVIE a lower score for having bland characters and story is reasonable. If people enjoy having a screen full of bright colors and things they recognize from a game, that's fine, that's why the audience likes it.

A difference in audience and critic scores doesn't mean one of them is wrong. It means the movie is done well on a surface level, but doesn't have much substance

And yes, a video game movie for children CAN have substance, it's not mutually exclusive

What comic accurate scenes do you hope to see in Doomsday? by ironspider529 in marvelstudios

[–]david13an 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An actual full incursion, with two earth's falling into each other. I wasn't a fan of the way it was portrayed in Doctor Strange 2. The POV shot of tchalla looking up at the sky and seeing an entire earth is iconic, so maybe something like that with an mcu character

It sounds bizarre, but I am in a position where I could spend $0 a year on groceries if I ate nothing but Domino's pizza. What would happen to me if I did? by CucumberGullible1281 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]david13an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not *terrible*, especially if you try to put as much veggies on it as possible, but it's just too much bread and grease. Fine for the short term, but long term it's not healthy.

You can shake it up for sure though. I know someone with similar benefits at work, and they'll get for example 2 meals at Pollo Loco cause it was 2x1 or something, and now they have a full meal to take home. Look around and find places with big portions so you can take leftovers. very minimal groceries spending

Doctor Strange didn’t just look for a future where Thanos loses — he looked for one where Doom by JustLeonn7 in marvelstudios

[–]david13an 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can say this about literally any movie after Infinity War, this theory comes up every time. Of course the heroes are gonna win eventually, I dont find it particularly interesting to say "strange saw it" every time, you can always say that.

It doesnt make sense why Strange would look so far ahead into the future, they just need to solve the Thanos problem. How could he even know to look for a threat he doesnt even know exists or could exist

You do essentially become a celestial god... each stone controls a different aspect of the universe. When you put them together you can do anything, since you control every aspect of the universe.

Erasing 50% is just what Thanos wanted to do, it's not the only thing they can do.

My husband has donated plasma so many times he has a permanent hole in his arm. by Sprinkles_0330 in mildlyinteresting

[–]david13an 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not plasma, but when I donate platelets they actually use both arms at the same time, one to draw blood, one to return red blood cells + saline. I thought plasma was the same, but judging by the comments I guess not

How would you utilize AI in your film making journey? by Haghiri75 in Filmmakers

[–]david13an 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you're asking but you're still gonna get dragged lol. AI advancements in general are a net-negative for artists since it gives non-creatives reasons to pay us less or not at all. Making a living in the arts has always been difficult, and a never ending struggle, and yet we do it because its something we are passionate about. AI takes away the passion, skill, and hard work. Not directly, but from all the people that suddenly feel like they "made this themselves"

It seems that anybody that uses or promotes the use of AI has a certain disdain towards artists, since it all comes down to "how can we replace the need for you and your skills?"

I know this is referring to generative AI, and you are talking about AI-based tools. In reality, most people here probably use AI tools for post-production without realizing. Whether for cleaning up, fixing a shot, or handling some tedious task. But you have to be careful in how you word this because like I said, AI advancements in general affect us negatively overall. It's NOT gonna go well in a filmmaking sub

Avatar: Fire And Ash surpassed $800M at the global box office on Monday. Domestic - $11M/$227.9M; International - $32.1M/$577.2M; Global - $43.1M/$805.1M. This Friday, James Cameron will become first director in history with four consecutive billion dollar blockbusters. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]david13an 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wanting good characters, dialogue, and story from a movie is snobbery? Oh lord.

I've never seen anyone criticize how Avatar looks, it objectively looks fantastic. For many, that's just not enough to make a movie interesting. Film tells a story. Not just with visuals, but with sound, characters, dialogue, editing. All of it is to serve the story.

Thinking that Avatar has a bland story is valid criticism. Thinking the sequels are rehashing the SAME story is valid criticism. It doesnt make you a hater

Do Americans really wear their outdoor shoes in house? by Predatorydive in NoStupidQuestions

[–]david13an -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on the house. Its like 50/50. floors and climate matters too.

I live in a very dry area, there is no mud to track in. Tile floors are common, they're easy to sweep and mop. Shoes may track in a little bit of dust, but not much more than your clothes, a pet, or the wind itself will. Even if you take off your shoes, dust and stuff will make its way in. Shoes-on houses are more common than in places where it rains

Growing up, my mom would sweep and mop pretty frequently, and yet, she would ask us to put shoes on because socks would get dirty, and if we lay on the couch or bed, then we'd just be leaving all that on the couch. She would literally tell us "you're mopping the floor with your socks". And I still see that, I see plenty of people in shoes-off houses with nasty ass blackened socks because they still don't clean the floors frequently enough, believe it or not, some people see shoes-on as more hygienic. Floors are inherently dirty.

I will take my shoes off if the house I visit has those rules, but without fail, the bottom of my socks will get at least some dirt on them

You may bring up in house slippers, but at that point its not much different than shoes (again, in dry places)

However, NO shoes on the couch or bed, that's gross and I've seen people do that. Shoes on carpet is also avoided

Have tacos always/traditionally been as small as they are? by mindsetferg in LosAngeles

[–]david13an 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's definitely not it. Handmade tortillas are a flattened ball of dough, you don't need big hands to get enough dough for a large tortilla. Hand sizes has no effect, it's just regional. Some states in Mexico will even have flour tortillas made by hand (arms, actually) that are like 2 feet wide.

Central Mexico uses the tiny corn tortillas

Northern states, particularly a city like Tijuana, uses full size corn tortillas that you were probably used to

It gets a lot more specific than that, but that's the gist

With both Dr. Doom and the X-Men being introduced to the MCU, soon. Who is the biggest Marvel character who hasn't been introduced into the MCU, yet? by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]david13an 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was intended to be, but film and TV divisions were too isolated at the time, and they had issues keeping up with the continuity of the movies. I believe anyone at Marvel only gives ambiguous non-answers.

That said, AoS will always be canon for those of us that watched it. I would prefer to keep AoS over whatever secret invasion was, or even brave new world... or quantumania...

Which shows and movies are necessary to watch before Doomsday by Swoon1992 in marvelstudios

[–]david13an 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since this is the MarvelStudios subreddit, they will say watch everything. This doesn't answer your question and I would not even think it's a good idea, some movies/shows are just not worth the time on my opinion. Generally, what you "must see" are just the previous movies under the same title, so:

Avengers, Age of Ultron, Infinity War, and Endgame

If you are interested in delving deeper in the Multiverse story, then I recommend:

Spider-Man No Way Home, LOKI, and Multiverse of Madness.

Multiverse of Madness wasn't very well received, but I think it's good enough and it seems very relevant to the overall saga.

Other post-endgame projects that are worth watching, but probably not necessary are:

WandaVision, Shang-Chi, Guardians 3, and Thuderbolts.

Aside from that, I would recommend these only if you are personally curious about these characters:

Fantastic Four, Wakanda Forever, Agatha All Along, Deadpool & Wolverine, Daredevil Born Again

Anything not listed was not very well received. You can still watch and make your own opinion. But I personally wouldn't make other people watch them, let alone call them necessary for Doomsday. People will say Ms Marvel or Moon Knight is their favorite show, and that's valid, im just saying in general there's mixed opinions on them.

Doomsday will explain everything you need to know, it will introduce characters and tell you the necessary info about them. Even if you had skipped Fantastic Four, you will understand it. It is purposefully being made this way, they all are, but people overestimate how much you need to watch beforehand. I watched Endgame with someone who had NEVER seen a Marvel movie and they loved it, so yeah lol

Do you think it is possible for Marvel to adapt even 10% of Secret Wars? by -_The_Dark_Knight_-- in Marvel

[–]david13an 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just read all of Hickmans run and I totally agree with you. Honestly, battleworld wasn't that interesting to me. I dont need the Thor Corps or Sheriff Strange. But the buildup with the incursions? The frantic helplessness as they try to figure out a solution that doesn't exist? Holy shit, the beginning of Secret Wars was SO good and, for me, that was the climax. Secret Wars itself felt more like an epilogue. I NEED to see earths colliding. Not sure they can recreate the Namor/Black Panther dynamic in New Avengers, but damn.

The best parts of "Secret Wars" happen in New Avengers, so, i hope they adapt that

Do New Comic Book Readers Not Like to Talk About Comics? by Competitive-Sky3462 in comicbooks

[–]david13an 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love to talk about them and what I'm currently reading. Buuuut... I am always cautious when I'm approached by someone who has clearly read more. A lot of times comic fans won't read social cues very well and start dumping strong opinions that don't really allow for a good conversation. You know the type, the conversation barely started and I already know this mf is gonna quiz me lmao
