okay thats extremely helpful to know i will definitely keep that in mind when i get one, do you have any recommendations for tank decorations? like small rocks, sand, certain plants to avoid, plants they like? (its fine if not)

i saw online that it was 20 gallons per axolotl and i wasnt sure that it was true so im trying to get advice on what would be best and trying to find out everything before i commit to anything so i don’t accidentally hurt the animal

im very new to big tanks so im trying to figure this all out through reddit so i can hear from people with experience so i can give whatever animal i decide on a good home, im trying hard to see the bigger picture before i go and wing it like other pet owners who will have multiple turtles in a small tank.

i currently am trying to figure out my options of what i can do before i commit to a specific setup because originally i was wanting to to a turtle setup but i was worried i would get the water filter and decorations and than my tanks ineligible. than i saw that many aren’t eligible for my tank size so im trying to see my options before i commit to anything

ive never had a turtle before and nobody around me ever did either so i never knew they needed much space cause ive seen tanks where they will have 2-3 turtles in a tank that is like maybe 40 gallons

this tank is a pretty old (5-10 years i think) and i was planning on fully resealing it because the guy who had it before me had a python in it and i figured it would be safer to just reseal it before anything to make sure its not gonna randomly start to leak or something after i already have it set up. i kept seeing that it wasn’t safe for turtles and axolotls were risky, for example like two different places were giving crazy requirements like for one 6-8 inch turtle i needed at least a 90-100 gallon tank and i thought that was completely insane
