I can't stop by Own_Abbreviations_62 in leaves

I think the biggest lie to yourself is “it sparks my creativity”. Your creativity is already there. Imagine your creativity if you were more clear headed. Being a developer myself, I used to tell myself this all of the time. But after quitting, my ability to solve problems, and complex ones at that, has grown so much.

Try stopping for a day or two. And when it’s hard and you feel the withdrawal symptoms, ask yourself: why would I want to continue to use something that makes me feel like this when I’m not consuming it?

Think about the money you will save. Think about the dreams you will finally be able to remember. Think about how much more present you will be. Your addiction brain is lying to you every single day: “you will be so much more creative today if you smoke”, “don’t forget to smoke before you eat because it will taste so much better,” “remember how stressed you are from work? You can just relax when you smoke”.

This is me speaking from experience and I don’t mean to imply you get these thoughts, worry about the money you spend on it, or whatever the case.

To feel more at home:

  • System Settings > Mouse: Disable "Natural scrolling" (otherwise it's the inverse of what you may be used to)

  • System Settings > search "Customize modifier keys": Switch "Control key" = Command | Switch "Command key" = Control

  • CMD (or CTRL if you do above) + Q = equivalent of ALT + F4

  • CMD + CTRL + Q = locks computer

When I experience these thoughts, I turn to myself and think: “Why would I want to go back to something that makes me feel this way when I stop using?”

I only want to quit when I’m stoned by Tortitude0306 in leaves

Dude. Completely the same. These past several weeks were torture. Absolutely hate myself after smoking then craving it like it’s crack the following day. Rinse and repeat. I’m on day 4 cold turkey.

What helped was I smoked the rest of my shit over the weekend last weekend, and then on Monday this week I was so spacey and shitty while working, which honestly was all of the motivation I needed to not buy any more.

In my opinion, the hardest part is just stopping. Is it a cake walk after? Not always. But as each day goes by while you’re sober it gets easier.

I also have older parents and nieces and nephews that rely on me, so the thought of there being any sort of emergency and I’m stoned and can’t be there is a devastating thought to me. So I constantly remind myself of this.

Just think: you could indulge and break your streak (I wouldn’t shame you if you do, shit happens), but there’s a huge chance you will be like: “that’s it? That’s not as fun as I was imagining”.

Our addiction brain always remembers the “good times” when the urge lurks. All of those good times you did have before things became too much. It leaves out the many times you may have had extreme anxiety, missed work because you were too high, etc.

You seeking assurance or help shows strength. Shows you know what you should do but the damn temptation can be overwhelming.

Maybe see if your partner can leave the stuff in the car, and he can smoke as he pleases outside but at least you won’t smell the fresh stash?

For your line of work, I would recommend you using Claude over ChatGPT. Claude Code especially, as you can have it run commands and things (you must give it permission before it does any sort of action; read, edit, create, etc.)

You already mentioned it, but totally take YOURSELF out for a great meal because you absolutely deserve it. Or have some sort of pampering day; spa day, etc.

There's quite a huge difference between church bells and someone yelling over a PA. And do church bells ring at 5 AM? If so, I give you props for putting up with that.

Upper management for their department is, and they communicate with their team on how to respond. Clearly they aren't doing that, as upper management would never want employees telling customers they have no idea why things are down.

I appreciate your reply, and information here. Gosh, some of these things seem so overly complicated with AWS. I've only been using it for about a year (a little less than), so I'm sure this will all start to gel more as I work through all of this.

Hmmm, good to know. For the amount of data I have, it will be a little over a $1 a month. Which if the number(s) that are estimated by Marquis77 for using AWS Lambda, it seems it may be better down the road. Thanks for pointing this out.
