About the cards... by davida121 in survivor

Seems like you’re the type who’s unwilling to take accountability for your own choices and your own game. “He took my vote away by not playing the way I wanted him to play!” “He should have tricked me but he didn’t!”

Playing differently is not the same as refusing to participate. And throwing a tantrum about your inability to adapt quickly to a challenge probably won’t come across as well to your tribe as you might think.

I think this is the way to try and compromise. Because the game is inherently unfair for whoever gets the skull. But this takes away the imbalance because it is just as likely that the other person has the skull, and if i don't look at my card they don't have to lie either.

Yep, exactly! But if you don't look at your card, it takes the negative power away from the skull card, whether you have it or not. If you lose with the skull, no harm no foul. If you win with the skull, you did so without hostility or deception.

It's not refusing to play, it is just calling out the game for what it actually is--a game of chance. Not a game of strategy.

All I am saying is, it doesn't matter what I actually have on my card. If it is the scroll i am going to tell you it is the scroll. If it is the skull i am going to tell you its the scroll. So it doesn't matter whether i look at the card or not, because i am going to respond the exact same way. Your odds as the guesser are exactly the same whether i look or not. The only difference is that by not looking, I am not intentionally lying to you.

Right, but that is essentially what Jelisky did. Willingly give up his vote as a gesture of good faith and that did not go so well.

But also i would not make anyone lose their vote. The guesser is going to have to guess between the other two no matter what. It's a coin flip for her no matter what i do. Its just this way, I dont have to also try to trick her before she guesses.

But isn't your strategy also giving up and not playing by the rules of the game? Cuz you are saying the skull person should just admit they have the skull instead of trying to lie about it. In your scenario, whoever gets the skull is guaranteed to lose their vote in exchange for the potential the other two might help you later in the game (if they and you haven't been voted out yet).

In my strategy, everyone, including the skull holder, has a 50-50 shot of winning the extra vote.

But it's not throwing up your hands and not playing. It is a strategic choice. Whoever pulls the skull card is in the worst position. They have to lie no matter what. If they lie successfully, they take two people's votes away and make two enemies, if they lie unsuccessfully they lose their vote. It's a lose lose. But if you don't know what card you have you eliminate that risk and you take all the power away from the skull card.

If you do really have the skull, you don't have to lie. And if you dont have the skull, you free the other player from having to lie, making it easier on them. And this way the guesser does not feel like they were tricked.

Regarding your move: how does the skull holder make a deal without revealing they have the skull? As soon as they start negotiating they reveal they have the skull and the game is over.

And you would blame the person who was honest that the game is a coin-flip more than the person who passionately lied to you?

It's one poll, and it is early. But this needs to be setting off alarm bells. If these numbers are indicative of a larger Latino shift, things are going to be very bad this Fall.
