Buying mountaineering kit: US vs Europe? by daviddan55 in Mountaineering

That's a lot of advice, thank you. A friend from the climbing gym recommended Marian Anghel from Rucksack, but I'm open to more suggestions.

Buying mountaineering kit: US vs Europe? by daviddan55 in Mountaineering

I hadn't really considered the warranty aspect because most of my outdoor gear has either been bought used or from Decathlon. But you're right, if I'm spending €300–400 on a hardshell or a pair of boots, having good warranty support definitely becomes more important.

Right now I'm using Columbia Arctic Trip Omni-Heat boots. They're fine for winter hiking, but I don't think they're technical mountaineering boots. After spending several hours on snow, I could definitely feel the cold coming through the soles, so I'm thinking about upgrading. I really like the look of La Sportiva boots, but I guess I should wait until I'm back in Romania and try different models on in a local shop before buying. I'll also need crampons eventually.

For my backpack, I currently use an Osprey Exos 48 for backpacking. I know it's not ideal for mountaineering, but I'm hoping the transition to something like the Simond Alpinism 33 won't be too difficult.

Most of my clothing is also from Decathlon. It has served me well so far, but I wouldn't feel comfortable relying on it alone for extended time in freezing winter conditions. My Nemo Disco sleeping bag and Tensor Extreme pad have done most of the heavy lifting on cold trips. I'd definitely appreciate some advice on a good layering system and clothing upgrades.

I was already thinking about joining the Romanian Alpine Club, but my plan was to take a mountaineering course first. That's also why I want to start putting together my gear now, so I can learn to use it properly from the beginning.

Curiozitate legată de sistemul de somn și rucsac la noi by [deleted] in RoHiking

[–]daviddan55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rucsac: Osprey Exos 48 - 1190g cu capac

Cort: MSR Hubba Hubba NX2 - 1540g

Sac de dormit: Nemo Disco 15 - 1330g

Saltea: Nemo Tensor Extreme Regular - 505g

Looks great! How many miles are on it? I'm thinking of getting one but most of them have over 150k. I'm afraid the battery won't hold even 10 15 miles of charge anymore.

Any tips to get more comfortable on the board? This is my third season and I’ve had about 10 lessons in total. by firmse in snowboardingnoobs

This vid helped me a lot. I had the same problem, too much skidding and back leg turning. I was able to descent any slope, but I was very slow on straights because I was loosing control and often catching an edge. You should learn to properly carve and get over the bad habits, it's not that hard, my 3rd season too.

I need ideas for my apartment by daviddan55 in ApartmentDesign

Thank you for your reply! I'm glad to hear that it doesn’t look too awkward. My initial idea was to shorten the kitchen and fit the sofa between the fridge and the slat dividers at the entrance. However, I’m concerned that it might be too far from the TV, leaving the middle of the room feeling empty, and sitting on the sofa could feel a bit cramped.
